Michael Bishop (writer)

Michael Lawson Bishop (born November 12, 1945 in Lincoln , Nebraska ) is an American author who writes primarily science fiction literature. He holds a Masters degree in English from the University of Georgia and has taught at various schools and universities.

Life

Bishop published his first short story Piñon Fall in 1970 , his first novel ( A Funeral for the Eyes of Fire ) followed in 1975. Bishop's numerous short stories and novels have been nominated for various science fiction awards. He was honored four times with the Locus Award and twice with the Nebula Award , 1981 for the short story The Quickening and 1982 for the novel "Nur die Zeit zum Feind ( No Enemy But Time ). In this novel, which is considered to be his best-known work, it is about the time travel to the cradle of mankind in Pleistocene Africa.The novel captivates with its character drawings and complex structure and dispenses with a technical attempt to explain the time travel.

His son, Christopher James Bishop, designed several covers of his father's books. He died on April 16, 2007 in the rampage at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg . He worked there as an IT consultant and German teacher.
