Michael Schilhan

Michael Schilhan (* 1964 in Judenburg ) is an Austrian theater and opera director and theater director .

Life

Schilhan grew up in Wartberg / Mürz Valley. He studied cultural management at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz . He received his acting training in Salzburg. He completed several study visits to Moscow (GITIS Institute). This was followed by productions and a. for the Festival Steirischer Herbst 99 (world premiere Die Signature von Robert Wolf), the Volkstheater Wien ( WP Kopfäktschn by Robert Wolf), the International Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt ( Armida and L'isola disabitata by Joseph Haydn ; conductor: Ádám Fischer ). L'isola disabitata was ranked among the five best Austrian opera productions by SIM-Festivals magazine in 1999. In 1998 Schilhan received the audience award and the sponsorship award at the European competition for direction and stage design at the Wagner Forum Graz. He has also received several invitations to the Austrian Theatertreffen ( The Rhinos by Eugène Ionesco at the Volkstheater Vienna). He has also worked for the Salzburg State Theater , the Festspielhaus St. Pölten (2001 Satyagraha by Philip Glass ), and the Klagenfurt Ensemble (2003 In the Penal Colony by Philip Glass).

He has staged plays by the authors Georg Timber-Trattnig and Robert Wolf, Felix Mitterer , Peter Turrini , Werner Schwab , Frank Wedekind , Nigel Williams , Helmut Eisendle , Franz Kafka and others. a. m. Invitations to various theater festivals.

Schilhan has been artistic director of the Graz youth theater Next Liberty since the 2001/2002 season , and since September 1, 2004 its managing director.

In the 2004/05 season he staged Der Wildschütz at the Graz Opera .
