Mihaela Botezan

Mihaela Maria Botezan , married Mihaela Maria Botezan-Prunduş , (born November 21, 1976 in Ocna Mureş , Alba County ) is a former Romanian athlete .

Life

In 2000 she became national champion in long-distance cross-country skiing and in the half marathon . In the same year she made her first international appearance when she came second in the 20 km from Paris . A short time later, she finished sixth at the World Half Marathon Championships in Veracruz and won the team championship together with Lidia Șimon and Cristina Pomacu .

At the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, Botezan finished fifth in the 10,000 meter run . Over the same distance she was fourth at the European Athletics Championships in Munich in 2002 . In addition, she reached sixth place there in the 5000 meter run . At the 2002 Half Marathon World Championships in Brussels, she finished fourth with a personal best of 1:09:24 h.

In 2003 she tried her first time on the marathon distance . At the London Marathon she finished ninth in 2:25:32 h in an exceptionally strong race, in which the winner Paula Radcliffe set a fabulous world record. At the World Athletics Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis , Botezan only reached 51st place in the marathon and was thirteenth over 10,000 m. The following year she finished eleventh in the 10,000-meter run at the Olympic Games in Athens , and at the World Half Marathon Championships in New Delhi she was tenth and won silver in the team championship.

In 2005, she finished seventh in the Osaka Women's Marathon and tenth in the Tokyo International Women's Marathon . After disappointing at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki with 23rd place in the 10,000-meter run, she was fifth at the World Half Marathon Championships in Edmonton and won the team classification together with Constantina Tomescu and Nuța Olaru . In 2006 Botezan won the 20 van Alphen . In the same year she also came fourth in the Paris Marathon and seventh in the Istanbul Marathon .

During a doping control as part of the Hamburg Marathon in April 2007, Botezan was found to have been prohibited from taking chlortalidone . As a result, she was given a two-year competition ban in October of that year. After she married in the meantime and adopted the surname Botezan-Prunduș , she became the mother of a daughter in 2009. In 2011 the athlete from Universitatea Cluj dared to make a comeback and thanks to her sponsors she was able to take part in the summer military world games in Rio de Janeiro , where she finished 12th in the 5000 meter run with 17: 35.85 minutes.

Mihaela Botezan is 1.62 m tall and weighs 49 kg.
