The Moštěnka ( German Moschtienka , formerly Stvola ) is a left tributary of the March in the Czech Republic .

geography

The Moštěnka rises four kilometers south of Osíčko on the ridge of the Hostýnské vrchy between the Javorník ( 799  m ) and Kelčský Javorník ( 865  m ). At the northwestern foot of the Kelčský Javorník, part of its water is diverted via a water divider to Loukov in the Libosvárka brook.

At Osíčko and Příkazy the Moštěnka flows into the Moravian plain. The places Horní Újezd , Vítonice and Žákovice are located on its course, which initially leads to the northwest . Here the river turns to the southwest and via Blazice , Lhotsko, Radkova Lhota , Radkovy , Dřevohostice , Turovice , Domaželice , Čechy , Prusy and Beňov it reaches Horní Moštěnice , where it bridges into the Přerov – Břeclav railway and the European route 55 .

From Záhatí the Moštěnka takes a southerly direction and past Vlkoš , Kanovsko , Říkovice , Žalkovice , Kyselovice , Břest , Skaštice and Plešovec, after 45.6 kilometers it flows into the Horní Zahrady settlement on the northern outskirts of Kroměříž . Its catchment area is 354.6 km².

Between the mouths of the Haná and Moštěnka rivers, the Rameno Moravy nature reserve is located on the left.

history

Above Horní Moštěnice, on an island between two arms of the river, the fortress Stvolabach, which has been documented since 1389, was located. Originally the Moštěnka flowed into the Bečva .

During the regulation that took place between 1920 and 1926, the last walls of the Stvolabach fortress opposite the Stohlbacher Mühle / Mlýn Stolbach were removed. At the same time, the old Bečva river became Malá Bečva and became the tributary of the Moštěnka.

After heavy rainfall, which began on July 4, 1997, the river flooded parts of Říkovice and Olšičky on July 7. The next day Kanovsko , Bědachov and Vlkoš were inundated by the flood of the century . The floods reached a height of up to two meters. After the floods subsided on July 12th, the river swelled again on July 18th. As the Bečva flooded at the same time , the Moštěnka flooded the still softened dams again by half a meter due to the backwater. After the water level had dropped, the flood warning was lifted on July 22, 1997.
