history

Moritz was first mentioned in a document in 1310 under the name "Mürharts"; in a second mention he is referred to as "Murhartz" in 1348. Until the beginning of the 19th century, Moritz was under the sovereignty of the Bamberg Monastery. When the Hochstift was secularized as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1802/03 and annexed by the Electorate Palatinate-Baiern in breach of the Imperial Constitution , Moritz also became part of the New Bavarian territories that were taken over during the Napoleonic land consolidation .

Due to the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century , Moritz became part of the independent rural community of Behringersmühle with the second municipal edict in 1818 , which also included the village of Wölm , the hamlet of Sachsenmühle and the wasteland of Stempfermühle . In the course of the municipal territorial reform carried out in Bavaria in the 1970s , Moritz was incorporated into Gößweinstein together with the entire municipality of Behringersmühle at the beginning of 1972. In 1987 Moritz had 80 inhabitants.
