history

Until the beginning of the 19th century, Türkelstein was under the sovereignty of the Bamberg Monastery . At that time it was in the Bailiwick district of the Gößweinstein office , which in its function as Bailiwick was entitled to exercise village and community rule. When the bishopric of Bamberg was secularized as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1802/03 and annexed by the Electorate of Palatinate-Baiern in breach of the Imperial Constitution , Türkelstein became part of the New Bavarian territories that were forcibly taken over during the Napoleonic land consolidation .

As a result of the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century , with the second municipal edict in 1818 , Türkelstein became part of the independent rural community of Leutzdorf , which also included the villages of Etzdorf and Hartenreuth and the hamlet of Sachsenmühle . In the course of the municipal territorial reform carried out in Bavaria in the 1970s , Türkelstein was incorporated into Gößweinstein together with the municipality of Leutzdorf at the beginning of 1974. In 2019, Türkelstein had 43 residents.
