Moritz Reinhold Rodion Gerhard von Grünewaldt ( Russian : Родион Мориц Рейнгольд Егорович Гринвальд; born May 12, 1797 in Koik , Estonia ; † December 24, 1877 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian cavalry general and member of the Russian State Council .

Life

Since 1813 served Moritz von Grünewald in the cavalry - Guard - Regiment of the Imperial Russian Army and in 1815 for cadet promoted. It joined in the same year was promoted to cornet on, then the carriage 1817 to lieutenant in 1819 to captain and in 1821 to captain . From 1825 he served as captain squadron of Leibeskadron the Russian Tsar Nicholas I (1796-1855) allocated. On June 25, 1833 he was promoted to major general, commanded a cavalry regiment and in 1837 took over the 1st Guard Cuirassier Brigade . After a short time off from work, he was sent to Berlin and carried out special missions in the Kingdom of Hanover , Kingdom of Württemberg and Austria . In 1839 he took over command of the 1st Cuirassier Brigade and in 1844 was promoted to Lieutenant General, commander of the Guard Cuirassier Division . After a disagreement with Grand Duke Michael Pawlowitsch Romanow in 1847, Grünewaldt settled in Koik ( Estonia governorate ) as a guesthouse . On May 28, 1849, he was appointed inspector of the Reserve Cavalry Corps . He was appointed adjutant general in 1850. In 1852 he was appointed personal military advisor to his son, Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolayevich Romanov , by Nicholas I. During the Crimean War of 1853 - 1856 he commanded the Guard Cavalry Corps, which was used as a security on the Baltic coast . In 1856 he was appointed general of the cavalry. From 1859 to 1876 he was President of the Baltic Sea Committee and since 1864 a member of the Russian Imperial Council. Since 1865 he was chief of the 4th Squadron of the Cavalry Guard Regiment and received 6500 acres of land in the province of Samara . On April 17, 1874 he was dismissed from civil service and founded the family legacy ( legacy ). He died on December 24, 1877 and was buried on the family estate in Orrisaar .

Origin and family

Moritz Reinhold Rodion v. G. came from the German-Baltic noble family von Grünewaldt . He was the son of the Estonian district administrator and Russian major Johann Georg von Grünewaldt (1763-1817), who was married to Anna von Kursell . Moritz wasn't married. His brothers were the founders of the houses of Hukas Johann von Grünewaldt (1796 - 1862), Koik Otto Magnus von Grünewaldt (1801 - 1890) and Orrisaar Alexander von Grünewald (1805 - 1886).
