Močenok (Slovak August 1951–1991 Sládečkovce , 1948–1951 Mučeníky , until 1927 Močonok or Močonek ; German Motschenok , Hungarian Mocsonok ) is a municipality in western Slovakia .

geography

It is located in Nitrianska pahorkatina ( Nitra hill country ), a part of the Danube hill country . Larger cities in the area are Nitra (about 20 km northeast) and Šaľa (about 10 km southwest). In addition to the main town, the municipality also includes Gorazdov , which is south of the main town .

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1113 as villa Missenic .

In 1951, for national political reasons, the place was renamed Sládečkovce in honor of Michal Sládeček , a farm worker who was injured during a strike by farm workers on the Hrúšťov manor and who died as a result. This was reversed in 1991.

1975–1990 the neighboring village Horná Kráľová to the north was part of the community.
