Mucharbi Nurbijewitsch Kirschinow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mucharbi Nurbijewitsch Kirschinow ( Russian Мухарби Нурбиевич Киржинов ; born January 1, 1949 in Koschechabl , Adygeja ) is a former Soviet weightlifter . He was an Olympic lightweight champion in 1972.

Career

Mucharbi Nurbijewitsch Kirschinow, a 1.60 meter tall athlete, appeared for the first time on the international lifting platform in 1970. The athlete from the North Caucasian autonomous republic of Adygeja was already a member of a sports club in Moscow at that time .

In 1971 he was used for the first time at an international championship, the World Cup in Lima . In the lightweight he came to 432.5 kg (135-127.5-167.5) in the Olympic three-way battle and with this performance took 3rd place behind the two Poles Zbigniew Kaczmarek and Waldemar Baszanowski .

In 1972 he started at the European Championships in Constanța and scored there in the lightweight 435 kg (135-127.5-170). He finished third behind Mladen Kutschew from Bulgaria , who achieved 447.5 kg, and Zbigniew Kaczmarek, who came to 442.5 kg. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , he was therefore not a favorite. Most experts predicted a victory for Kuchev. Kirschinow surprised all experts and the audience there with a sensational performance. He achieved 460 kg in the Olympic three-way fight and set three new world records with 177.5 kg in the push and with 455 kg and 460 kg in the three-way fight. He won the gold medal in front of Mladen Kutschew (450 kg) and Zbigniew Kaczmarek (437.5 kg).

After the 1972 Olympic Games, the International Weightlifting Association abolished pressing. From that point on, the competitions consisted only of snatching and pushing. Kirschinow was also able to cope with this new situation and in 1973 became both European and world champions in lightweight . At the European Championships in Madrid he scored 302.5 kg in a duel, winning ahead of Mladen Kutschew, who came to 295 kg, and at the World Championships in Havana he won with 305 kg, relegating Kuchev, who achieved 300 kg, again to the 2nd place.

In 1974 Kirschinow won the title in a duel with 300 kg at the European Championships in Verona in front of Zbigniew Kaczmarek (297.5 kg) and the Austrian Walter Legel, who came to 280 kg. At this year's World Cup in Manila , he made three failed attempts while pressing. He therefore did not achieve a duel and remained unplaced. In pushing he mastered 167.5 kg, with which he took 3rd place in this sub-discipline.

In 1975 Kirschinow achieved 297.5 kg (127.5-170) at the World Championships in Moscow . With this performance he only reached 5th place. The winner was his compatriot Petro Korol , who weighed 312.5 kg. After that, Kirschinov's career came to an end. He did not appear at any international championships. Nothing is known about his further life.
