Map with all coordinates: The Murray Valley Highway is a trunk road in Victoria , Australia . It runs for about 670 kilometers in a northwest-southeast direction and follows the course of the Murray River and the border between New South Wales and Victoria.

The Murray Valley Highway has its official beginning in the village of Robinvale in northwest Victoria, about 80 kilometers southeast of Mildura . There it begins on the bridge that crosses the Murray River. From there there is a two-kilometer link road to Euston , where there is a connection to the Sturt Highway . This connecting road is often referred to as an extension or part of the Murray Valley Highway.
Until a few years ago, the start of the Murray Valley Highway was about 60 kilometers further west, in the town of Hattah , where it branched off from the Calder Highway .
Today the Murray Valley Highway starts from Robinvale and heads southeast. After about 140 kilometers the highway reaches the town of Swan Hill . Swan Hill is the second largest town on the Murray River and the center of the wine-growing region of the same name .
60 kilometers to the southeast is Kerang, where the Loddon Valley Highway branches off to the south. The Murray Valley Highway continues to follow the course of the Murray River until it reaches Echuca . At Echuca, the Cobb Highway from New South Wales crosses the Murray River in the north and continues as the Northern Highway south to Melbourne . Echuca is known for the World in Wax , an exhibition of wax figures , the National Holden Motor Museum and its port, from which paddle steamers still operate regular services.
The next major town on the Murray Valley Highway is Cobram, 100 kilometers to the east. Cobram is a major milk processing center in Australia and the headquarters of two large dairy groups that process around 35% of Australia's milk. 50 kilometers further east lies Yarrawonga on the Murray Valley Highway, near which the Murray River was dammed up to Lake Mulwala .
After Rutherglen, a gold mining town from the 1850s, the Murray Valley Highway reaches Wodonga , the last major town in its course. Before Wodonga, the Hume Highway , which connects Sydney and Melbourne, crosses . A few kilometers beyond Wodongo, the Murray River was dammed into Lake Hume . This serves as a water reservoir for irrigation of agricultural areas during the summer and for electricity generation by a hydropower plant integrated into the dam .
On the shores of Lake Hume, about 40 kilometers southeast of Wodonga, the Murray Valley Highway passes the town of Tallangatta before reaching its end 80 kilometers further east in Corryong. To the east of Corryong, the Murray Valley Highway continues in the Alpine Way , which leads into the Kosciusko National Park .
