Myōkō ( Japanese 妙 高市 , - shi ) is a city in Niigata Prefecture in Japan .
geography
Myōkō is south of Jōetsu and north of Nagano .
history
The city of Myōkō was founded on April 1, 2005 from the Shi Arai , the Chō Myōkōkōgen and the Mura Myōkō . The name of the new city comes only indirectly from the village, but refers to the 2,454 m high mountain Myōkō .
