National Library of Wales
The National Library of Wales ( Welsh : Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru / ˈɬəvrgeɬ geneˈdlaɪθol kəmˈrɪ / ; National Library of Wales ) is a library in Aberystwyth , Wales . It is entitled to a legal deposit of every book published in the UK or Republic of Ireland and is home to over 4 million printed volumes, including many rare books such as the first book printed in Welsh in 1546 and the first full Welsh translation of the Bible in 1588.
There are also many rare and important manuscripts such as The Black Book of Carmarthen (the oldest manuscript preserved entirely in Welsh), The Book of Taliesin and a manuscript from the work of Geoffrey Chaucer .
Also in the library are The Welsh Political Archive, The National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales, maps, photographs, paintings, topographic and landscape prints, and magazines and newspapers.
Many of the most important works have been digitized and are freely available for viewing on the library website.
