The Gartroper Mühlenbach nature reserve is located in the area of ​​the communities Hünxe and Schermbeck in the Wesel district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area, which consists of two sub-areas, extends east of the core town of Hünxe and southwest of the core town of Schermbeck. The Lippe flows north . The A 3 runs to the west, the L 104 state road and the A 31 run to the east . To the east is the 226 hectare nature reserve Torfvenn / Rehrbach .

For Hünxe and Schermbeck, a 550.87 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve under the identification number WES-081 since 2002 . The area was placed under protection in order to preserve and restore typical biotope complexes with their characteristic animal and plant species.
