The nature reserve Nieder Heide am Egelsberg (NSG identification WES-044) is around 4.6 hectares in size and is located in the southwestern urban area of Moers . It includes a moist birch-oak forest and borders directly on the larger Krefeld NSG Egelsberg in the south . Together, the two nature reserves are almost completely part of the FFH area DE-4605-302 Egelsberg , which means that the area is part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas .

The designation as a nature reserve serves to maintain a structurally rich wetland complex, which is important in the biotope network ; the environment is predominantly agricultural and characterized by settlement areas.
