Vanessa Schulz , known as Nessi (born May 15, 1989 in Hamburg ) is a German musician from Berlin .

biography

Vanessa Schulz attended a local high school , which she left at the age of 17 without a high school diploma. She has completed training as a state-certified assistant for foreign languages.

Career

Before moving to Berlin, Schulz played in the rock band Personenaufzug , which split up after a few concerts. In Berlin, she founded the group Set Sails with a friend before starting her solo career. In 2010 Nessi was part of a PETA video campaign under the motto Nessi is going vegan . A camera team accompanied the musician on her way into vegan life. She was also seen in a commercial for insurance company Allianz for musical instruments. In 2014, their second EP, Twentythreeyears, was released via Serve & Volley . She successfully released her debut EP Escapism on her own in 2012, so that a publishing deal with BMG Chrysalisstaate came about . Escapism was produced by Moses Schneider .

Support shows for Mando Diao in Berlin followed . In 2011 she was seen in the support program for Erasure in Cologne and other German cities. In 2013 she was seen in Stuttgart with Zaz and Nina Attal . This concert took place as part of the Jazzopen Stuttgart . In June 2014 Nessi played at Rock am Ring on the Alternastage and opened for musicians like Triggerfinger , Milky Chance , Haim and Marteria . She also played in the opening act for Johannes Oerding , Babyshambles , John Newman , Kilians and Cat Power . In November 2014 Nessi was supposed to give four club concerts in Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg and Munich . This tour has been postponed to February 2015. In October 2015 she got the opportunity to accompany the English band Take That to the five German stages of their Live 2015 Tour and to introduce their new album Rolling With the Punches to around 50,000 viewers as a preliminary program . In 2015 she also appeared in the opening act at all Jessie J concerts in Germany. In mid-January 2015 her debut album Rolling With the Punches was released via Tonpool . A year earlier she brought out an EP with Twentythreeyears on the Serve & Volley label.

She is accompanied by three musicians from Great Britain when performing live .

In February 2015 she had a brief appearance in the ARD morning magazine . On March 2, 2015 she was seen at Circus HalliGalli .

As a feature guest of rapper Kool Savas , she made her first chart entry at number 26 in the German single charts on January 25, 2019 with the song Deine Mutter .

Musical influences

Nessi's music can best be described as electropop . Musically, their sound is reminiscent of Chvrches or The 1975 .
