Noëmi Simonetto de Portela (born February 1, 1926 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † February 20, 2011 there ) was an Argentine athlete who was second in the Olympic long jump in 1948 .
At the age of 15, Noëmi Simonetto took part in the 1941 South American Championships in her hometown of Buenos Aires. In the high jump with 1.45 meters and in the long jump with 4.96 meters she took third place. She won her first South American title with the 4 x 100 meter relay in 51.2 seconds. Two years later at the South American Championships in Santiago de Chile in 1943 , she won the 100-meter run in 12.4 seconds. After finishing third in the high jump with 1.50 meters, she won two more titles on the final day: in the long jump with 5.27 meters and with the relay in 49.5 seconds.
At the South American Championships in Montevideo in 1945 , she again won three competitions: In the 80-meter hurdles she won in 11.7 seconds, in the long jump with 5.44 meters and with the relay in 50.2 seconds. In the 100-meter run she took second place in 12.5 seconds and also in the high jump she came second with 1.50 meters. At the South American Championships in Rio de Janeiro in 1947 , as in 1945, she was the most successful participant. The victories in the 100-meter run in 12.4 seconds and in the hurdles in 11.5 seconds were followed by victories in the long jump with 5.40 meters and with the relay in 49.9 seconds. In the high jump she crossed 1.55 meters and once again achieved second place behind the Chilean Ilse Barends . Noëmi Simonetto won a total of 11 titles as well as three silver and three bronze medals at the South American Championships.
At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 , Noëmi Simonetto de Portela was eliminated in the 100-meter run and in the hurdles semi-finals, but reached the final in the long jump and won the silver medal behind the Hungarian Olga Gyarmati with 5.60 meters . This makes her the only Argentine athlete who has ever won an Olympic medal up to and including 2008.
