Nominon is a Swedish death metal band from Jönköping that was formed in 1993.

history

The band was formed in January 1993 by guitarist Juha Sulasalmi and singer Peter Nilsson after they broke up with their previous band, Choronzon. In the same year the demos Daemon 1 and Daemon 2 appeared , on the Fafnir for the "howling", Vvhorrkkh for the electric guitar and Iaka as the drummer were noted, although the group still consisted only of Sulasalmi and Nilsson. Sulasalmi and Nilsson were also active in the band Dion Fortune, which meant that they were only limited with Nominon; this changed after the group broke up in 1995. In February 1996 the first gig followed together with Vermin , Dissection and Dismember . Nominon consisted of Sulasalmi on drummer, singer Niklas “Nicke” Holstensson, guitarists Christian Cederborg and Jonas Mattson and bassist Tobias “Tobbe” Hellman. Later that year the demo My Fear appeared , after which Sulasalmi switched to the electric guitar and Emil Dragutinovic could be heard as the new drummer. The group recorded the demo Demo 2 - 96 in the same line-up . After the demo promo was released in 1997 , Hellman left the line-up and was replaced by bassist David Svartz. Through the demo Nominon reached a contract with X-Treme Records , which was followed in October 1998 by the recordings of the debut album Diabolical Bloodshed , which was released in November 1999, which took place in the Sunlight Studio in Stockholm . In 1998 the band held their first concerts outside of Sweden with performances in Germany in Ludwigsburg and Rostock . Then they went on tour with Warhammer . In the same year, the band was seen on the Swedish TV show Sefyr . Before the recording of the debut album, Lenny Blade had also joined the line-up as the new bass player. Then the band negotiated with another label. After the band signed a contract in 2001, it was dissolved shortly thereafter. In the meantime, Emil Dragutinovic left the band in September 2001 and later joined Marduk . He was replaced by Per "Perra" Karlsson. In addition, the singer Holstenson left the band and joined Thy Primordial in June 2003 . The EP Blaspheming the Dead was released in 2003 with Jonas Mattson as the singer, the compact cassette version also containing a cover version of the Repulsion song Decomposed . In 2003 Nominom recorded the EP The True Face of Death , which was released in 2004 on CD on Nuclear Winter Records and on LP on TPL Records . After that, bassist Lenny Blade left the line-up in May and was replaced by Joel Andersson. While the group was looking for a new singer, Juha Sulasalmi took over this position. In the same year the group reached a contract with Konqueror Records for CD and Blood Harvest Records for LP releases. In the fall of 2004, the band went to the Necromorbus Studio to record a cover version of Voivods Live for Violence for a tribute album by Nihilistic Holocaust Records . A cover of the whiplash song Spit on Your Grave was also recorded. In addition, Nominon went on a European tour with Benediction and Godhate in September, with Daniel Garptoft as the new singer. The German label Northern Silence Productions released a split release in 2004 together with Fafner called Daemons of the Past , which contained the band's first three demos. At the beginning of 2005 the second album Recremation was recorded in the Necromorbus Studio with co-producer Tore “Necromorbus” Stjerna , before it was released in April of the same year. Christian Strömblad was present as the second guitarist during the recording. The limited LP version released through Blood Harvest Records included the previously recorded Whiplash cover as a bonus. In May the group performed at Fuck the Commerce in Luckau , Germany, before touring Europe with Vital Remains later that year . The tour took place in October and November and included appearances in Austria , Italy , Switzerland , France , Spain , Portugal , Luxembourg and the Netherlands . In early 2006, a music video for the song Hordes of Flies was shot. In the summer, the US labels Deathgasm Records and Necroharmonic Productions released Recreations in North and South America . In the same year, the Singaporean label Pulverized Records released the compilation Remnants of a Diabolical History , which contains old demo recordings and rare recordings. This includes the previously unreleased song Diabolical Bloodshed , the Whiplash, Voivod and Repulsion covers, as well as demos. In October, Anders Malmström joined the group as the new bass player.

In early 2007, the band went back to the Necromorbus Studio with Tore Stjerna to record the third album Terra Necrosis , a track chosen by original singer Peter Nilsson. The sound carrier was released in the same year as a CD on Konqueror Records in Europe and Asia , on Deathgasm Records and Ibexmoon Records in North and South America and as an LP on Blood Harvest Records. Together with the Swedish band Demonical and NunSlaughter , they went on a tour through Northern Europe in the summer . In the following year it went through Denmark , Germany and the Netherlands together with Remains . The Dutch label Badger Records released the EP Legiôes em Portugal at that time , which included live recordings of the band from 2005 in Portugal . In summer 2008 they went on a tour through North America together with Quinta Essentia . They also played with Incantation and performed at the Central Illinois Metalfest in Urbana . The group made their 100th appearance at the final concert of the tour in Nashville , Tennessee . In the fall, Deathgasm Records re-released Diabolical Bloodshed , before a tour through Europe with Holy Moses and Benediction followed in October 2008 . The tour spanned 14 countries, lasted four weeks and included 26 performances.

In 2009 the band worked on new songs and recorded a few demos in the process. In addition, they regulated the release of the next album with Deathgasm and Blood Harvest Records. In September 2009 they went back to the Necromorbus Studio with Tore Stjerna. Since the singer Daniel Garptoft had left the cast before the recordings, various singers like Erik Sahlström and Johan “Barsk” Thornberg stepped in for him and Sulasalmi also took over the vocal role again. In November, the EP Omen was released as a foretaste , which contained four songs, before the album Monumentomb was released in March 2010. Before the recordings, Martin Karlsson was also briefly active in the band as a bassist. The release was followed by a four-week tour of the United States with Quinta Essentia and Infinitum Obscure . At the end of June the LP version of Monumentomb was released via Blood Harvest Records . The first 100 copies contained the EP Omen as a bonus, on which the two songs Invocations and Through Dead Dreams Door could be heard, which came from the previously released EP of the same name. Later that year the band played with Dead Congregation and Bloody Sign at the Danish Kill-Town Festival in Copenhagen .

In early 2011, the split release Morbid Tunes of Death appeared along with Exorcism. The band also played concerts in Poland , Denmark and Sweden and recorded the EP Manifestation of Black in May and June before it was released on Deathgasm Records in December. In 2011, Henke Skoog also joined Nominon as the new singer. During the recording, other songs were created that were used for various split releases such as Absence of Light / Impaling the Nazarene mit Kommandant, which was released via Cryptorium Records in the summer of 2012. Then Nominon covered the Impaled Nazarene song Human Proof . In the same year she contributed another cover version for the split release Imperial Anthems - Vol. X , on which she covered together with Graveyard Candlemass . The phonogram was released by Cyclone Empire in early August . In October 2012 the fifth album The Cleansing was released on CD and LP via Deathgasm Records . The album was recorded in Studio Hell by Rober Ericsson and mixed and mastered in Moontower Studios in Barcelona by Javi Feléz and Per Karlsson. On the album the line-up consisted of bassist Juha Sulasalmi, drummer Per Karlsson, guitarist Alexander Lyrbo, singer Henke Skoog and guitarist Christian Strömblad under the pseudonym "Antichristian". In 2013 the group celebrated their 20th anniversary by releasing the compilation Decaydes of Abomination , which included songs from early demos, albums and EPs. As a bonus, the music video for Hordes of Flies is also included. The group held a few gigs in Sweden towards the end of the year. In early 2014, the split release Maldiciones Impuras with Morbosidad appeared on the Norwegian label Edged Circle Productions . Nominon contributed the song Of Ancient Craft , which was not included on any other recording and was recorded at Studio Hell in late 2013.

style

According to Janne Stark in his book The Heaviest Encyclopedia of Swedish Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Ever! the band plays old school death metal, which is aggressive and brutal. According to Daniel Ekeroth in his book Swedish Death Metal , the band's brutal style anticipated the new wave of Swedish death metal as played by Soils of Fate , Spawn of Possession , Insision and Visceral Bleeding . According to David Perri in The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 4: The '00s , Terra Necrosis is a sensible continuation of the Swedish Death Metal style, unlike bands like Bloodbath , who are a nostalgic homage to Stockholm Death Metal. Nominon play Death Metal, which would be similar to Entombed if they had continued the style of Left Hand Path . In addition, the music is also comparable to that of Dismember.
