Novosergijewka ( Russian Новосе́ргиевка ) is a settlement (possjolok) in the Orenburg Oblast in Russia with 13,737 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is a good 100 km as the crow flies west-northwest of the Orenburg Oblast Administrative Center . It is located on the left bank of the Volga tributary Samara , at the confluence of the small left tributary Lebjaschka and opposite the confluence of the larger Kuwai from the right.
Novosergijewka is the administrative center of the Novosergijewski Rajons and the seat of the rural community (selskoje posselenije) Novosergijewski possowet, which also includes the villages Lebjaschka (8 km southwest), Zemlyanka (8 km southeast) and Tscherepanowo (15 km south), and the settlement Klyuchi (6 km north-west ) and the hamlet of Kasarma 1404 km (6 km southwest) belong.
history
The place was founded in 1738 in connection with the construction of the Tewkelew Brod fortress not far from the border between the Russian Empire and the sparsely populated steppe areas of Central Asia. In the 18th century, the name Novo-Sergijewskaja ("New Sergijewskaja", presumably after a church consecrated to St. Sergius ) became popular, and was replaced by the current form in the 1960s.
Since 1934 the settlement has been the administrative seat of a Rajon. From 1948 to 1999 Novosergiyevka had urban-type settlement status .

Novosergijewka is located at kilometer 1398 of the railway line ( Moscow -) Samara - Orenburg (- Aqtöbe - Tashkent ) opened on this section in 1877 .
To the south-west, the Samara - Orenburg branch of the M5 Ural federal highway bypasses the settlement .
