Nowy Świętów (German German Wette , 1945-1947 Witów ) is a village in the rural community Głuchołazy (goat neck) in Poland . It is located in the powiat Nyski ( Neisse district ) in the Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location

The street village Nowy Świętów is located in the southwest of the historical region of Upper Silesia . The place is about seven kilometers north of the municipality seat Głuchołazy ( goat neck ), about 14 kilometers south of the district town Nysa and about 67 kilometers southwest of the voivodeship capital Opole .

The place lies in the Nizina Śląska (Silesian Plain) within the Płaskowyż Głubczycki (Leobschützer Loesshügelland) . Nowy Świętów is located on the right bank of the Biała Głuchołaska ( Goat Neck Biele ). The station Nowy Świętów located on the railway line Kędzierzyn-Koźle-Nysa . The Droga wojewódzka 411 provincial road runs east of the village .

In the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis from the years 1295-1305, the place is mentioned for the first time as "Swetow theutonico". In 1368 the place was mentioned as Swtania theotunicul .

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Deutsch Wette with most of Silesia fell to Prussia . In 1794 a school was established in the village.

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community Deutsch Wette belonged to the district of Neisse in the administrative district of Opole from 1816 . In 1845 there was a scholtisei , a castle, a Catholic parish church, a Catholic school, a brewery, four sandstone quarries and 116 other houses in the village. In the same year, 674 people lived in Deutsch Wette, one of them Protestant. In 1855 there were 629 people living in the village. In 1865 there were 20 farmers, 19 gardeners and 28 cottagers as well as a mill and two taverns. In 1874 the administrative district Deutsch Wette was founded, which consisted of the rural communities Altewalde, Deutsch Wette and Winsdorf and the manor district Deutsch Wette. In 1885, Deutsch Wette had 662 inhabitants.

On May 9, 1933, the Deutsch Wette district was dissolved. The village of Deutsch Wette was assigned to the district of Langendorf. In 1933 there were 895 people living in Deutsch Wette and 973 in 1939. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Neisse .

In 1945 Deutsch Wette came under Polish administration and was initially renamed Witów . In 1947 the place was renamed Nowy Świętów . From 1950 it belonged to the Opole Voivodeship and from 1999 to the re-established Powiat Nyski .

Attractions

  • The Roman Catholic Church of Christ the King (Polish Kościół Chrystusa Króla ) was mentioned as early as 1302 and was originally dedicated to St. Margaret . In 1719 the church was rebuilt. Between 1937 and 1938 the nave was extended by a vertical extension. At the same time, Romanesque elements were reconstructed on the old nave and the quarry stone masonry exposed. On the west side of the historical nave there is a bell tower standing on a square floor plan. In the nave there are two rococo side altars . The main altar and the stations of the cross in the extension date from the 1930s. The frescoes are by A. Mrzyglod and were made in 1953. The church is surrounded by a stone wall from the 15th century. The church building has been a listed building since 1966.
