Oberwerrn is a district of the municipality Niederwerrn ( incorporated on May 1, 1978) in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt . The place is 6 km northwest of Schweinfurt , at 247 m above sea level. NN and has about 2000 inhabitants.

geography

The place is in the natural area of Schweinfurt Basin . It occupies a position in the hilly edge area of the north-western sub-basin. In terms of cultural landscape , the BfN describes the local area as part of the Schweinfurt agglomeration , which is largely within the Schweinfurt Basin natural area.

The river Wern flows in a 100 m wide valley floor the district from NW to SE. In the local area, the difference in altitude from the Werntalgrund (234 m above sea level) to the heights (approx. 265 m above sea level) is a good 30 m. The issues raised by the Flußeinschneidung rock layers of the lower Keuper of Wern are east superficial pending only on the steeper slopes. The rocks are predominantly gray to colorful mudstones (partly quartzite slate) and marl , with switched-in gray and yellow limestone banks and sandstone fillings (including factory sandstone), as well as isolated carbonaceous layers. The slopes to the west of the Wern and the surrounding heights, on the other hand, are predominantly covered by cold-age loess (blown from the west). In the Holocene, fertile parabrown soils formed in the loess, which have hardly been completely preserved for centuries due to soil erosion and intensive agricultural use. In the rocks of the Unterkeuper ( relocated during the Cold Age by solifluction ), denser and less productive loamy - clay soils developed. In the Werngrund there are mainly Auelehme . There the river overflows its banks almost every year .

The Barthelsgraben is the largest Wern tributary (on the left) within the district. The stream runs in a relatively pronounced valley, which branches off from the Werntal towards the northeast. Nüßgraben and Badersgraben form gentle contours that reach the Werngrund coming from the right and at the mouths of which there are water mills (Marx mill and Paulus mill). On the slope of the hill in between, the village center developed at a ford .

resources

The most important component is the ocher-colored sandstone , which has been used in numerous buildings and sculptures . The nearest quarry is in Kronungen (approx. 2 km NW). Loess loam can be found in the framework of houses and - shaped and fired - as bricks.

Under the water-bearing plant sandstone are water astonished shales. The layers of the sub-total Keupers fall slightly to southwest, trending to the axis of the NW-SE Schweinfurter trough a. At the lower edge of the sandstone there are usually springs , on the north side of the Werngrund there are several wells that reach the base of the sandstone.

Agriculture (including wheat , sugar beet , rapeseed , maize ) is characteristic of the landscape . On Keuper slope is the community forest . The Werngrund is under grassland use .

Surname

The name Oberwerrn is derived from the Wern river flowing through the village , which flows into the Main near Gemünden . The addition Ober should distinguish the village from the southeast lying place.

development

Catholic Church of St. Bartholomew

The date of foundation has not been conclusively determined. The early history of the beginning of the 12th century is closely related to Aura Monastery . Over the centuries, the village in the prince-bishopric of Würzburg was very agricultural, as evidenced by a number of Franconian three-sided farmsteads in the town center. Wayside shrines and figures of saints on the gables of the houses show that the local population is rooted in the Catholic faith .

Due to the close proximity to the industrial city of Schweinfurt , the structure of the settlement changed fundamentally in the 20th century from an agrarian village to a residential community with almost 2000 inhabitants, in which only a few farmers cultivate the surrounding areas. The largest development areas were in a south-easterly direction between Badersgraben and Wern and on the northern side of the Werngrund (Werntalsiedlung). The "settlement" was created after the Second World War , initially to offer housing to those who had been displaced . There is also another small expansion area called “Buchweg” west of the railway line. It is adjacent to an industrial and commercial area.

Because of the risk of flooding, the Werngrund remains undeveloped, which has led to the division of the settlement into two parts, which is characteristic of Oberwerrn.

Infrastructure

The federal highway 19 and the Schweinfurt-Erfurt motorway ( A 71 ) run to the west of the village . The next BAB junctions are Schweinfurt-West and Poppenhausen .

The main building of the station was built under Andreas Lohrey in 1870/71 when the first sections of the Schweinfurt – Meiningen railway line were being built. Passenger traffic was stopped in 1979. A new stop was opened in 2008 . The trains of the Erfurt Railway stop here in the direction of Bad Kissingen , Gemünden am Main , Mellrichstadt and Schweinfurt .

Drinking water is provided by the water supply association for the Rhön-Maintal Group based in Poppenhausen . Oberwerrn is in supply area C. The water is rather hard, with 2.82 - 3.32 mmol / l CaCO 3 . Many wells in supply area C take water from aquifers in the rocks of the shell limestone . The Niederwerrn part of the municipality is part of the drinking water network of the city of Schweinfurt.

Disposed of is wastewater on the town Niederwerrn. This belongs to the Upper Werntalgemeinden waste water association founded in 1960, which was converted from an internal association into an external association on January 1, 2009.
