The Odin is a Finnish ro-ro - ferry of the shipping company J & L Shipping. The ferry was built as Odin Sydfyen for the Danish shipping company Sydfyenske Dampskibsselskab .

history

The ferry was built under construction number 168 on Svendborg Værft in Svendborg for the Sydfyenske Dampskibsselskab in Spodsbjerg . The keel was laid on November 13, 1982, the launch on May 14, 1982. The ship was delivered in August 1982 and then used under the Danish flag on the route between Spodsbjerg on the island of Langeland and Tårs on the island of Lolland . The ship was the second ferry in the shipping company's fleet renewal program. The Thor Sydfyen, built in 1978, had previously been commissioned. In 1984 the Frigg Sydfyen followed , a sister ship of the Odin Sydfyen .

When SFDS af 1991 split off from Sydfyenske Dampskibsselskab in 1991, the ferry came to SFDS af 1991. In 1996, SFDS af 1991 was taken over by DSB Rederi and the ferry was subsequently operated by DSB Rederi. When the ferry business was outsourced to Scandlines Danmark by the Danish State Railways (DSB), the ferry became part of the Scandlines Danmark fleet in 1997.

At the end of 2007 the ferry was sold to the shipping company Sydfynske, who let Langelandstrafikken continue to operate the ferry between Spodsbjerg and Tårs. On October 1, 2010, the ship came to Danske Færger , which was the result of the merger of Nordic Ferry Services, Bornholmstrafikken and Sydfynske.

From the end of May 2012 the ferry operated between Bøjden on the island of Als and Fynshav on the island of Funen , from June 2012 together with Frigg Sydfyen . In mid-March 2015, the ferry on the route was replaced by the Fynshav . In April 2015 she was sold to the Finnish shipping company J & L Shipping in Mariehamn . The ferry now operated under the Finnish flag with its home port Brändö was named Odin . J & L Shipping uses the ship on behalf of the Åland Landscape Government for ferry traffic on the Åland Islands . At first it was used between Långnäs , Överö and Snäckö. The ferry now operates between Kumlinge , Föglö and Långnäs.

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by two MAN B & W - diesel engines (type: 6T23L) each with 685  kW power driven. The motors act on two controllable pitch propellers with Becker rudders. The ship is equipped with two bow thrusters .

The ferry has a continuous vehicle deck that is accessible via ramps. The vehicle deck is completely closed. At the bow there is a bow visor that can be opened upwards , and at the stern there is a tailgate that can be opened upwards.

There are three decks above the vehicle deck. Among other things, the facilities for the passengers are housed here, including lounges and a cafeteria. In the rear of the ship there is a sun deck with seating for the passengers. The bridge is in the front of the ship. For a better overview, the cams on both sides go slightly beyond the width of the ship. For a better overview when mooring to the rear, there is an additional steering position in the rear area of the superstructure .

The ferry is approved for 338 passengers. However, the shipping company only markets the ferry for 80 passengers in accordance with the requirements of the Åland landscape government. The vehicle capacity of the ferry is 50 cars.

The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1C).
