Okoboji is located in the middle of the Iowa Great Lakes region in northwestern Iowa. The city is located on West Okoboji Lake and East Okoboji Lake , which are connected to each other on the southern outskirts via a narrow passage. Both lakes belong to the Missouri river basin via a chain of other lakes, Milford Creek and Little Sioux River . The Minnesota state line is 15 km north of the city; the Iowa border with South Dakota , formed by the Big Sioux River , runs 121 km to the west.
The geographical coordinates of Okoboji are 43 ° 23'11 "north latitude and 95 ° 08'54" west longitude. The city extends over an area of 4.82 km² and is mostly in the Center Grove Township and a smaller part in the Lakeville Township .
