The Oldsmobile Model M was a passenger car manufactured by Oldsmobile in the 1908 model year . It replaced the model A from the previous year. The Oldsmobile model MR was the technically identical roadster version except for the shorter wheelbase (2692 instead of 2845 mm) and replaced the model H from 1907.
The vehicles had water-cooled inline four-cylinder four-stroke engines installed at the front, which drew an output of 36 bhp (26.5 kW) from the enlarged displacement of 5506 cm³.
The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a three-speed gearbox with a gearshift lever on the outside right and a cardan shaft. The brake pedal worked on the cardan shaft, the handbrake lever on the drum brakes on the rear wheels. The car was delivered as a 4-door touring car (model M) or a 2-seat roadster (model MR). Acetylene lighting came as standard, as were oil lamps and luggage racks.
Together with the somewhat smaller four-cylinder model X , 1,000 vehicles were built this year. In the following year, the M and MR models were replaced by the D and DR models .
