Olesk (Ukrainian Олеськ ; Russian Олеск / Olesk , Polish Olesk ) is a village in Ukraine with about 800 inhabitants.

location

Olesk lies in the Oblast Volyn in Liuboml Raion . The Rajonszentrum Ljuboml is located about 17 kilometers northwest, the oblast capital Lutsk about 89 kilometers southeast. The Polish border runs about 20 kilometers away in the west, and the Neretwa river flows through the village .

On 23 December 2016, the village became part of the newly established rural community Wyschniw (Ukrainian Вишнівська сільська громада / Wyschniwska silska hromada ) until then, the village formed together with the northern village Hlynjanka (Глинянка), the same District Municipality .

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1453 and until the Third Partition of Poland in 1795 it was part of the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania , in the Ruthenia / Chełmer Land voivodeship . Then it came to the newly founded Volhynia Governorate as part of the Russian Empire . After the end of the First World War, the place became part of the Second Polish Republic ( Volyn Voivodeship , Powiat Włodzimierz, Gmina Olesk). As a result of the Hitler-Stalin Pact , the Soviet Union occupied the area. After the German attack on the Soviet Union in June 1941, the place was under German rule until 1944, then came back to the Soviet Union after the Second World War and was incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR . Since 1991 Olesk has been part of today's Ukraine.
