Olympic Winter Games 1924 / Participant (Switzerland)
The Switzerland took part in the Olympic Winter Games in 1924 in Chamonix in part with a delegation of 27 athletes in four sports. The Swiss NOK had registered 42 athletes for the games, of which 27 took part in competitions. The members of the military patrol do not count as official Olympic participants. A total of 5 athletes took part in the Olympic Games for the second time:
- Louis Dufour (1920 ice hockey)
- Max Holzboer (1920 ice hockey)
- Marius Jaccard (1920 ice hockey)
- Bruno Leuzinger (1920 ice hockey)
- René Savoie (1920 ice hockey)
Summary: The Swiss had the closest of all participants. Chamonix is only a few kilometers from the Swiss border and so it came about that a large contingent of 42 athletes should take part in the winter sports week. In the end, there were only 27 who entered the competitions. Gold for Lieutenant Denis Vaucher's military patrol and for Eduard Scherrer's four-man bobsleigh and bronze for figure skater Georges Gautschi . A record that is impressive, especially since Gautschi's third place came as a complete surprise. Afterwards: The gold medal of the military patrol was unofficial, did not count - because of the demonstration competition - and so only one gold and one bronze each are left for the result lists. The highly favored curling team had not come for whatever reason. As expected, the skiers stayed in the midfield and fought especially with the Italians and the Czechoslovaks for places after the Scandinavians. The best here were Walter Buchberger with 7th place in Nordic combined and Alexandre Girard-Bille with 8th place in ski jumping.
