This article covers the Finnish Olympic selection during the 1980 Summer Olympics .
Olympic qualification
Finland prevailed against Denmark in the 1st round and moved into the decisive 2nd round. There they finished third and originally missed qualifying for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow . Due to the boycott of Norway and the Federal Republic of Germany because of the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan , Finland subsequently slipped into the Olympic tournament.

After a defeat against Yugoslavia and a draw against Iraq, they won the last group game against Costa Rica. This closed the group in third place and was eliminated from the tournament after the preliminary round.
