Zweiflingen is a municipality in the Hohenlohekreis ( Heilbronn-Franken region ) 8 km north of Öhringen in the Franconian north-east of Baden-Württemberg . It belongs to the Heilbronn-Franken region.
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1230 and today has around 1800 inhabitants (as of 2012). Zweiflingen is located on the UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper German-Raetian Limes .

Community structure
The municipality of Zweiflingen includes the former municipalities and today's districts Orendelsall, Westernbach and Zweiflingen.
- The village of Orendelsall and the abandoned town of Bergheim belong to the former municipality of Orendelsall .
- The village of Westernbach and the abandoned village of Bongartten or Baumgarten belong to the former municipality of Westernbach.
- The former municipality of Zweiflingen (within the borders of March 31, 1972) includes the villages Zweiflingen, Eichach, Friedrichsruhe, Pfahlbach, Tiefensall and the houses Heiligenhaus and Schönau as well as the lost villages Archenbrunnen, Baningen, Bradbach, Büttelhausen, Eselsdorf, Fockenweiler, Poppenrodt and Pig book.
The municipality has agreed an administrative partnership with the large district town of Öhringen and the municipality of Pfedelbach .

history
middle Ages
Zweiflingen was first mentioned in a document in 1230. In the 15th century the entire area of today's municipality came under Hohenlohe rule. The division of the country in 1553 led to the affiliation to the County of Hohenlohe-Neuenstein , which in turn belonged to the Franconian Empire .
Modern times
When the Hohenlohe Lands lost their independence through the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1806, Zweiflingen also came to the Kingdom of Württemberg and there to the Oberamt Öhringen (since 1938: Landkreis Öhringen ). With the district reform in 1972, the community fell to the newly formed Hohenlohekreis .
Incorporations
On April 1, 1972, the municipality Orendelsall was incorporated; on September 1, 1972, the municipality of Westernbach followed.

Municipal council
The municipality council in Zweiflingen has eleven members. In the local elections on May 26, 2019 , the local council was elected by majority vote. Majority voting takes place if no or only one nomination has been submitted. The applicants with the highest number of votes are then elected. The municipal council consists of the voluntary councilors and the mayor as chairman. The mayor is entitled to vote in the municipal council.

badges and flags
The blazon of the Zweiflinger coat of arms reads: In silver under a striding, looking black lion (leopard) with a folded tail, three green ears of corn crossed with the stems. The flag of the municipality is green and white.
After the community reform, the community adopted a coat of arms that refers to agriculture and the affiliation to Hohenlohe represented by the Hohenlohe leopard as common features of all districts. The coat of arms and flag were awarded to the community on March 1, 1974 by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior.
Economy and Infrastructure

Zweiflingen is still a predominantly agricultural community today.
The two-star restaurant Le Cerf by the chef Boris Rommel in the Friedrichsruhe district, to which a hotel and golf course is affiliated, is known nationwide.
Next to it is the large garden railway system of the Friedrichsruhe Steam Railway Friends, which is regularly open to the public in the summer months.

Road traffic
The state roads L 1048 and L 1050 run through the municipality. The next motorway junction is the Neuenstein junction (No. 41) of the federal motorway 6 , approx. 8 km away, accessible via Neuenstein . Coming from Heilbronn you can also use the Öhringen junction (No. 40).
Omnibus connection
The public transport is with buses by the Heilbronner Hohenloher Haller transport ensured.
Rail connection
The nearest train station is in Öhringen on the Crailsheim – Heilbronn railway, approx. 8 km away.
Tourist Limes Street
The place is on the German Limes Road . The community is a member of the "Verein Deutsche Limes-Straße".
Limes cycle path
The German Limes Cycle Path runs through the districts of Pfahlbach and Westernbach . It follows the Upper German-Raetian Limes over 818 km from Bad Hönningen on the Rhine to Regensburg on the Danube .
Culture and sights
- In the district of Pfahlbach, the Roman border wall (Limes) is particularly well preserved over a length of almost 300 m with wall and ditch.
- The Friedrichsruhe Hunting Lodge , built at the beginning of the 18th century in the Friedrichsruhe district of the same name, now serves as a luxury hotel.
- In Friedrichsruhe there is a park railway, the steam train Friedrichsruhe .
Personalities
The poet Ludwig Amandus Bauer (1803-1846) was born in the Orendelsall district . He wrote several dramas based on a myth Orplid devised together with his friend Eduard Mörike (1804–1875) .
