Luni (until 2017 Ortonovo ) is an Italian municipality with 8,321 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Liguria region in the province of La Spezia .
geography
Luni is the easternmost municipality in Liguria and lies at the foot of the Apuan Alps , on the border with the Tuscany region .
The core of the municipality is on one of the hills that limit the Magra plain. Most of the common land lies in this range of hills, although part of it is in the plain, in the area of ancient Luni . On the territory of Luni is also the weather station of Sarzana Luni , by the World Meteorological Organization is recognized.
In the vicinity of the municipality is the historic Borgo di Nicola , which was also built on a hill below the Apuan Alps.
history
Nearby are the ruins of the archaeological site of Luna , a once Roman colony.
In 2017, the municipality changed its previous name Ortonovo to Luni .
economy
The economy is based on handicrafts , agriculture (mainly the cultivation of wine and olives ) and the production or processing of wine and vegetable oils .
