Osman Denizci (born October 13, 1957 in Trabzon ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. He was a member of the Trabzonspor team that was the first Anatolian team to win the Turkish championship, and was a member of the big team of this club for four seasons, which, nicknamed Karadeniz Fırtınası , dominated Turkish football for a decade from 1975 onwards . He is the younger brother of Ali Kemal Denizci , a long-time football player from Trabzonspors, and was called Delikanlı Osman during his playing days .

Player career

society

Denizci went through the youth department of Trabzonspor , the most famous and successful club in the Trabzon province. This fact was favored by the fact that Denizci 's older brother Ali Kemal Denizci played for the first team Trabzonspors and was the star of the team. After Denizci had spent the first half of the 1975/76 season at Trabzonspor, he was given to the third division club Erzurumspor for the second half . With this club he finished the 1978/79 season as a champion and rose to the 2nd Futbol Ligi , which was then the second highest Turkish league.

After the rise with Erzurumspor, Denizci moved to the first division club Rizespor . At this club, he immediately established himself as a regular player and was largely responsible for the fact that his club ended the first division season 1979/80 as fifth and thus achieved the best first division placement in the club's history, which is still valid today. With six league goals he was also the third most successful goalscorer of his team behind Sinan Turhan and Zafer Dinçer . In the 1980/81 season Denizci increased his team performance again and played for the top scorer's crown in the 1st Lig until the end of the season . At the end of the season he stayed with 14 goals together with Halil İbrahim Eren from Boluspor behind Bora Öztürk (15 goals) from Adanaspor second in the top scorer list of the first division season 1980/81 .

After Rizespor failed to stay in the league as fifteenth in the table, they were forced to give Denizci to one of the numerous interested parties. Since Denizci's older brother Ali Kemal Denizci was working for Fenerbahçe Istanbul at the time and wanted to leave the club, his head coach Friedel Rausch suggested he let him go if he persuaded his brother Osman Denizci to move to Fenerbahçe in return. So Denizci moved to Fenerbahçe in the summer of 1981 and his older brother in return for city rivals Beşiktaş Istanbul . At Fenerbahçe, after a disappointing season from the club's point of view, a squad revision was carried out under the directive of head coach Friedel Rausch and several seasoned players were handed over. Instead, in addition to new purchases such as Osman Denizci, the younger players were also established in the team. In this environment Denizci quickly secured a regular place. With the Istanbul team he was able to win the preseason cup of the Turkish Sports Journalists Association . The revision had an effect and so Fenerbahçe played again for the championship. After Rausch left the club after the 23rd match day, Enver Katip took over the team on an interim basis until the end of the season and finished the league in third place in the table. Denizci completed 27 of his team's 32 possible league games and won the Navy Cup with his club . For the 1982/83 season , Fenerbahçe hired the Yugoslav Branko Stanković as the new head coach. Under this coach, the team increased their previous year's performance. In the Turkish championship they prevailed against their worst rival Trabzonspor and won this trophy again after five years. In addition, the team won the Turkish Cup this season , making it a Turkish double winner for the third time in the club's history . Five game days before the end of this season Denizci was told by Fenerbahçe President Ali Şen that he had been given to Trabzonspor for the coming season. The decisive factor in this change is said to have been the fact that the Trabzonspor President Mehmet Ali Yılmaz forced the change with the support of some underworld greats from Trabzon. After this change became known, it was speculated that Denizci would no longer show the necessary commitment for Fenerbahçe and thus favor the championship of the direct competitor Trabzonspors. Contrary to this speculation, Denizci showed great commitment in the last five match days and even scored the decisive winner in the 84th minute on the penultimate matchday in the 2-1 final against Bursaspor and thus ensured the championship-winning victory of his team. This attitude gave Denizci his nickname Delikanlı Osman, which in the concrete context freely translated means Osman the sincere .

In the summer of 1983 Denizci moved from Fenerbahçe to Trabzonspor for a transfer fee of 40 million Turkish Lira . His new club Trabzonspor, which has dominated Turkish football in recent years, invested in new players after two unsuccessful seasons in the summer of 1983 and brought up aspiring young players such as Hasan Şengün , Hasan Vezir , Kemal Serdar and Osman Denizci. With these reinforcements, Trabzonspor got off to a good start in the 1983/84 season and fought head-to-head for the Turkish championship with Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul . Before the 26th matchday, Trabzonspor took first place in the table with just one point ahead of the two opponents. Already in the Saturday game of this match day Galatasaray lost 3-0 to Orduspor and thus enabled Trabzonspor to achieve a first preliminary decision towards the championship by an away win against the other direct rivals Fenerbahçe. In the hard-fought game, which was sold out with 26,000 spectators, both teams played a thrilling game. Trabzonspor won the game 1-0 with a goal from Hasan Şengün in the 89th minute. With this victory, the club took an important step towards the championship. For the remaining game days, she confidently kept the point lead and reached the sixth and, for the time being, last championship in the club's history. Denizci completed 16 out of a possible 30 league games this season. He also won the Turkish Football Cup with Trabzonspor this season and was involved in Trabzonspor's second and last Turkish double victory. As a result, Denizci was honored to be part of two consecutive Turkish double winners. In the cup competition he scored two goals in five games. In the next season he fell out during a training session in November 1984 with the head coach Özkan Sümer and was expelled from the training. Subsequently, the club leadership suspended him from the team. After speculating about a sale of Denizci, he was loaned to league rivals Bursaspor for the rest of the season at the end of November 1984 . In the summer of 1985, he returned to Denizci and was then re-added to the Trabzonspor squad. This club had hired a new head coach with Jürgen Sundermann . Denizci was regularly used again under Sundermann. After Trabzonspor had remained untitled in the two seasons, a roster revision was decided. Some longtime players like Şenol Güneş and Güngör Şahinkaya retired and others like Denizci were put on the sales list.

After Denizci was put on the sales list by Trabzonspor, his previous club Fenerbahçe stepped in and reached an agreement with them. After several weeks of negotiations, Denizci moved back to Fenerbahçe for a transfer fee of 35 million Turkish Lira. With his new club Denizci was able to win the preseason cup competition of the TSYD Istanbul Cup, but otherwise had no chance in the championship. After the 1987/88 season ended below expectations, Fenerbahçe also decided to revise their squad. Denizci, who had been more of a reservist for the last two seasons, decided to end his career.

National team

Denizci began his national team career in 1975 during his time in the youth team of Trabzonspor with a commitment for the Turkish U-18 national team. For the Turkish U-18s Denizci played ten more times by June 1976.

1979 Denizci completed two missions for the Turkish U-21 national team . In February 1982, he completed another U-21 game, despite being well over 21 for most of the games. The events of this illegal operation are not known in detail.

Denizci was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team in October 1980 by national coach Sabri Kiraz as part of a test match against the Libyan national team , but was only on the bench in this encounter. and made his A international debut in this encounter. Then it was no longer considered. By December 1982 Denizci was nominated three more times and was used in two more games.

Coaching career

Denizci began working as a coach for the first time in 1993 and assisted the head coach Hüseyin Tok at the Istanbul second division club Kartalspor . He then worked for the clubs Trabzon Yalıspor and Maltepespor as head coach.

From November 2006 he started working at Trabzonspor as an assistant coach and assisted the head coach Ziya Doğan .

In December 2011 he started to work as head coach at the amateur club Armutlu Belediyespor and remained in office for three months.
