history

In 1078 Ottenhofen was mentioned for the first time in a document in which King Heinrich IV gave the place back to the Gumbertuss pen. In 1182 the Heilsbronn monastery in "Utelhoven" acquired goods. In 1224 a church was mentioned in Ottenhofen, which was a branch of the parish Burgbernheim. The Reformation that began in 1528 , which was valued and promoted by Pastor Johann Faber (Fabritius), who worked here until 1535, and the new, Protestant clergy, was initially particularly hostile to the residents (as was the Würzburg Bishop Konrad III of Thüngen as patron saint) . Since 1581 there was a school in Ottenhofen. During the Thirty Years' War in autumn 1631, like in Marktbergel and Ickelheim, there were attacks by imperial troops.

At the end of the 18th century there were 42 properties in Ottenhofen. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Bayreuth Vogtamt Altheim . If necessary, it had to be delivered to the mayor's office in Burgbernheim . The village and township government had the box office Windheim held. The Principality of Bayreuth was the landlord of all properties (Kastenamt Windsheim: 13 courtyards, 2 two-thirds courtyards, 2 half-courtyards, 6 estates, 7 Sölden ; Schultheißenamt Burgbernheim: church, rectory, schoolhouse, 12 houses).

In 1810 Ottenhofen came to the new Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict, it was assigned to the Schwebheim tax district in 1811 . In 1817 the rural community Schwebheim was formed, to which Ottenhofen belonged. With the second community edict (1818) Ottenhofen broke up and formed its own rural community. The administration and jurisdiction of the rural community Ottenhofen was subordinate to the District Court of Windsheim and the financial administration to the Ipsheim Rent Office . From 1862 Ottenhofen was administered by the Uffenheim District Office (renamed the Uffenheim District in 1938 ) and from 1856 by the Windsheim Rent Office ( renamed Windsheim Tax Office in 1920 ). The jurisdiction remained with the District Court of Windsheim until 1879, from 1880 District Court of Windsheim . The municipality had an area of 7,057 km².

On January 1, 1978 Ottenhofen was incorporated into the Marktbergel market.
