geography

location

Pönitz in December 2006. Looking north

Pönitz is about 3 kilometers north-northeast of Taucha. Three parts of the settlement belong to the place. One on the south side of the Leipzig – Eilenburg railway line , at which Pönitz has a stop, the actual village center on the north side and the new “Weidenweg” development area attached to it. The Taucha terminal moraine landscape lies between Taucha and Pönitz. The two highest points of the place, the Wachberg and the Fuchsberg, can also be traced back to the Ice Age formation . Pönitz borders in the south on the Staditzwald , in the middle of which is the Staditzteich . This local recreation area is part of the “green belt” around Leipzig . The district road 7422 Plösitz– Zschettgau runs through the village .

history

The first documentary mention dates from 1496 as Bonewitz . August Schumann mentions Pönitz in the State Lexicon of Saxony in 1821 concerning a. a .:

“It is written. to the local knight's estate, which was added to the old script on Jan. 30, 1753 and is earned with 1 knight's horse. The village has 20 houses, 1 mill and 120 inhabitants, who are parish to Liehmena. That said. The manor is now connected to the manor Rischwitz in Wurzen Abbey . "

Until 1815 Pönitz belonged as an exclave between the offices of Eilenburg and Leipzig to the electoral office of Delitzsch . Since the Delitzsch office came to Prussia through the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the Pönitz exclave was integrated into the royal Saxon district office of Leipzig.

On June 1, 1888, Pönitz received a railway connection on the Leipzig – Eilenburg line with the stop of the same name, which is now served by the S4 trains of the MDV every half hour.

On December 1, 1991, Pönitz was incorporated into Taucha.
