Pabandom iš naujo! (Eng. Let's try again! ) is the Lithuanian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . The show is organized by the Lithuanian broadcasting company Lietuvos nacionalinis radijas ir televizija (LRT).

history

After LRT chose their first program internally when they participated in 1994 , the broadcaster established its own preliminary decision. Initially under the title Nacionalinė atranka į Euroviziją. It is considered to be the preliminary round with the most participants and contributions. Over the years, however, the concept of the show has been revised again and again, so that different modes have developed over the years.

mode

1999 to 2008

The Lithuanian preliminary round took place between 1999 and 2008 under the title Nacionalinė atranka į Euroviziją . Up to and including 2002, the preliminary decision consisted of only one program with twelve to 15 participants. In 1999 a jury alone decided on the winner. In 2002 and 2004, a jury of experts (50%), the audience via televoting (25%) and the audience in the venue (25%) decided on the winner of the preliminary decision. In 2004 the preliminary decision took place for the first time over several weeks. From then until 2008, there were several semi-finals every year. Their exact number varied from year to year. In 2004 and 2005 the audience decided which participants qualified for the final. A jury also distributed a wildcard to those performers who had not yet been able to qualify through the semi-finals. In the 2004 final, a jury and the audience decided the winner of the preliminary decision in equal parts. In 2005, only the audience voted in the final. In 2006 LRT introduced a newcomer heat . In three rounds each, eight to ten newcomers had the opportunity to qualify for the subsequent quarter-finals. A jury and the audience voted in these three rounds. Six of the 12 participants qualified for the semifinals, in which they met established artists. In each of these four semi-finals, four performers qualified for the final. A jury handed out a wildcard to two performers who had not yet qualified for the semi-finals. In both the semifinals and the final, only the audience voted by televoting. In 2007 the newcomer round was shortened to one broadcast. Instead, there was one broadcast for less established and one for established artists. The audience decided 4/7 and an expert jury decided 3/7 on the qualifiers for the two subsequent semi-finals. There, too, both decided equally on the winners of the semi-finals. In the final, the audience decided in two voting rounds. In 2008 only three semifinals took place in the run-up to the final. A combination of jury and televoting decided on the winners. In the final, only the audience voted again.

2009

The preliminary decision took place in 2009 under the new name Lietuvos Dainų Daina . A total of six broadcasts took place. In each of the three quarter-finals, twelve performers presented their contributions. Of these, six qualified for the two semi-finals. A jury also selected two other participants. In all six broadcasts, the results were determined via regional televoting. The televoting of ten regions was converted into points from 1 to 8, 10 and 12 points (n).

2010 to 2012

In the years 2010 to 2012 the preliminary decision took place under the title Eurovizija . The concept was strongly based on that of Nacionalinė atranka į Euroviziją. Divided into three semi-finals, eleven to twelve performers took part in one semi-final. Three entries each qualified for the final. A jury then selected three further performers for the final. In all programs, a jury and the audience decided equally on the results. In 2011 and 2012 a superfinal also took place in the final. Three contributions previously selected by the audience have now been evaluated by a jury of experts. In the end, they determined the winner of the Euroviziya.

2013 to 2019

With the name change to Eurovizijos , so-called heats were introduced in 2013. In each of these five heats, eight performers presented their contributions. Three of them were voted into the two semi-finals and three more by a jury. Four performers from the two semi-finals qualified for the final. Due to a short-term withdrawal of one of the candidates, the final took place with only seven instead of eight performers. In all programs, a combination of jury and televoting again decided the results. In the superfinal, an expert jury again selected the winner of the preliminary decision. In 2014 the format was changed. The preliminary decision extended over eleven programs. This time, 20 performers took part in the competition. In the first four programs, the performers only presented cover versions of a song that related to the motto of the respective program. In the first two programs the artists competed in duels, so that after both programs only ten performers remained. From the third broadcast, an interpreter had to leave the broadcast continuously. From the fifth broadcast, the artists presented their potential contributions to the Eurovision Song Contest. In the semifinals, only the potential song for the ESC was voted on. Three potential titles could be selected. In the final, the interpreter who won the most votes in the jury and televoting then won. A combination of jury and televoting also determined the winners of the other programs of this year's edition. In 2015, the station stuck to the same concept. Only the number of broadcasts was reduced to eight and, in addition to a Lithuanian jury voting, an international jury voting was introduced. Between 2016 and 2018, the concept for today's preliminary decision Pabandom iš naujo was established. The performers competed with their contributions in so-called heats. Due to the high number of participants, up to eight heats took place in 2017. In 2018 and 2019 there were also two semi-finals.

Since 2020

The preliminary decision has been held since 2020 under the title Pabandom iš naujo . The concept with heats and semifinals is adhered to. From now on there will only be three heats due to the reduced number of participants. Based on the jury concept of the Eurovision Song Contest, the juries will no longer comment on the performances during the broadcasts. Instead, they watch the performances in another room. The audience voting will also no longer be shown during the broadcast, but will only be published at the end of the broadcast. It is also no longer possible to take part in the competition with two songs at the same time.
