Paul Drayson, Baron Drayson (2009)

Paul Rudd Drayson, Drayson Baron (* 5. March 1960 ) is a British businessman , politician of the Labor Party and racing driver , among other things, the 24-hour race at Le Mans participated.

Life

Entrepreneurs and politicians

After attending St Dunstan's College , Drayson studied production engineering at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (EAS) at Aston University , where he earned a Ph.D. in robotics . He then served as Managing Director of Lambourn Food Company before co - founding Oxford- based pharmaceutical company PowderJect Pharmaceuticals plc in 1993 , which specializes in the manufacture of vaccines . He was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) there until the takeover by Chiron Corporation in 2003 .

On 8 June 2004 he was appointed Life peer with the title of Baron Drayson , of Kensington in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea , in the peerage collected and has since been the House of Lords on.

In May 2005 he took over his first government office as "Junior Minister" with the appointment of Parliamentary Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Defense , where he was responsible for military procurement until March 2007. In March 2007 he became Minister of State in the Ministry of Defense with responsibility for military equipment and support, before he became Minister of State in the Ministry of Economy, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform between June 2007 and January 2008, where he was responsible for economics and regulatory reform.

In October 2008 he became Minister of State in the Ministry of Innovation, Universities and Skills, which was renamed the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Skills in June 2009. As the minister responsible for science and innovation there, he also took part in the meetings of the cabinet of Prime Minister Gordon Brown until May 2010 . At the same time he was again Minister of State in the Ministry of Defense from June 2009 to May 2010, where he was responsible for reforms in the procurement of strategic defense.

In addition to his entrepreneurial and political activities, Drayson is involved in motor racing and founded his own team with Paul Drayson Racing , with which he took part in the Le Mans 24-hour races as team principal and driver.

In the 2009 race , however, his team dropped out. In the 2010 race , his team drove 252 laps, but could not classify itself and finished 28th out of 56 teams. In addition to him, Jonny Cocker and Emanuele Pirro were among the drivers of the team that started with a Lola B09 / 60 .
