Pedro António Pereira Gonçalves (born June 28, 1998 in Chaves ), also known as Pote , is a Portuguese football player who has been under contract with the first division club Sporting Lisbon since August 2020 . The midfielder is a former Portuguese U20 international .

Career

Pedro Gonçalves, born in Chaves in northern Portugal , began his football training at Vidago FC and moved to GD Chaves in 2008 . From 2010 to 2015 he played in the youth of Sporting Braga and then for the Spanish club FC Valencia . In July 2017 Gonçalves moved to the English club Wolverhampton Wanderers , where he signed a two-year contract with an option for another year and was assigned to the U23 team. In his first season 2017/18 he was a regular player in the U23 and played 16 league games in Premier League 2, in which he scored four goals. He made his first-team debut on August 28, 2018 in a 2-0 cup win over Sheffield Wednesday . This was his only appearance for the first team in this 2018/19 season. In the reserve, he was used in 19 league games, in which he again scored four goals.

On July 2, 2019, Pedro Gonçalves moved to the Portuguese first division promoted FC Famalicão on a free transfer , where he signed a five-year contract. He made his debut on August 3, 2019 in the 0-2 cup defeat against SC Covilhã . He made his league debut on August 10, 2019 (1st matchday) in a 2-0 away win against CD Santa Clara . He scored his first league goal on September 14 (5th matchday) in a 4-2 home win against FC Paços de Ferreira . At the Famalicenses he quickly established himself as a regular player in midfield and contributed significantly to the team's strong start to the season, which was reflected in the first place in the table up to the eighth match day. The team did not stay in the first place in the table in the next few months and Gonçalves led the team as captain for the first time in January 2020. In total, he scored five goals and six assists in 33 league appearances this 2019/20 season , making him one of the discoveries of the season.

On August 18, 2020, Gonçalves moved to league rivals Sporting Lisbon , where he signed a five-year deal.
