geography

Petersburg is located southwest of the core town of Attendorn and west of Neu-Listernohl . The Ihnestraße (L 539) leads past to the south, the Ihne flows and the Biggetalsperre extends .

history

The name Petersburg came about late, probably at the green table. The first house that was built there shortly after 1800 was popularly called "Stichwiese". The Stiegwiese area belonged to the Schulten Hof in Merklinghausen at the time .

The Heidenstrasse , a centuries-old military and trade route from Leipzig to Cologne , also a pilgrimage route in the Middle Ages, led there through a deep ravine over the steep ascent to Attendorn. The farrier and cart blacksmith Emmerich Luke worked on this street in Petersburg and also ran a carter tavern there until he bought Hof Roscheid in 1893 and moved away. Kaspar Fernholz took over his pub Wacholderhäuschen.

The children from Petersburg and 22 other places went to school in Listerscheid since 1839 . The address book from 1929 in Petersburg lists the names "Fernholz (farmer and innkeeper), Lahme and Schulte". In 1936 there were 6 houses with 9 households and 48 residents in the village.

In 1947 Hubert Stumpf (1900–1983) exchanged his house in Fernholte with the tax authorities , who needed a new forestry in Fernholte, for an oak area on Krähenberg in Petersburg. The wood processing and the Christmas tree trade now became his main field of work. The clearing resulted in a new residential building with stables, a sawmill, several residential buildings and the Hotel Krähenhof.

The address book from 1956 in Petersburg lists the names "Brauner, Budde, Fernholz (4), Kinas, Lahme (6), Meuschel (2), Pielhau (2), Plassmann, Schulte (9) and Stumpf (2)".

With the end of the Second World War, there was a lot of building activity in Petersburg, the place got bigger and bigger and since then it has developed into a popular residential area of Attendorn. At the end of 1988 the place had 483 inhabitants.

From 1819, Petersburg belonged to the Attendorn municipality in the Attendorn-Land municipality , until it was incorporated into the city of Attendorn in 1969.

The Evangelical Peace Church on Alte Handelsstrasse was inaugurated in 1972. The Catholic parish of St. Augustine is in nearby Neu-Listernohl. Club life also takes place there.
