geography

Wamge is located west of the core town of Attendorn and south of Listerscheid and paper mill in a side valley of the Ihne . The local mountain is the 419 m high Bausenberg.

history

Wamge was first mentioned in a document in 1379 as " to Waymbecke " and in 1386 as Wambecke . The interpretation of the place name as a “ bright, shining stream ” refers to the Ihne flowing north of the settlement. On April 25, 1411 sold Wilhelm Graf zu Limburg and Mr. Broich to his Lehnware on the tenth of the goods Boikenboile , Werschede , Alverinchusen and Waymbeke to a Cologne citizens.

Politically, Wamge formerly belonged to the Waldenburg office and in the Gogericht and parish Attendorn to the peasantry Albringhausen, which also belonged to surrounding places such as Listerscheid, Papiermühle, Weschede, Klinke and others.

In the Turkish tax list of 1536 Johann's son is listed in the Wombeke , and in 1563 Johann in the Wagmecke . In the treasury register of 1543, Johann in der Wamk was named with 26 taxpayers in the Ailberinghausen bureau with a fee of 1 place (¼ gold guilders ). In the registry of 1565, Johann is taxed with 2 ort (½ Gg). In 1648 Georg Heidtbrinck in the Wamecke with his family and in 1664 Caspar Heidbrink and Thonis Flucht are liable for tax. Members of the Flucht family are mentioned as taxpayers until 1728. In the Hessian times (1802-1816) there were two farms in Wamge; Hesperich's estate and the lowest estate, later their properties were divided.

Since 1839 the children from Wamge and 22 surrounding villages in Listerscheid / Wamge have attended a one-class school. Teachers were u. a. Flusche and Arens, Spielmann (1899), Schulte and Stamm (1914) or Mertin (1929). In the 1880s the number of students increased so much that in 1888 a one-class school was built in Klinke. Later, after the number of students continued to rise, in 1911/12 a three-class school was opened in Listernohl .

The address book from 1929 in Wamge has the names "Bruse (2), Henze (4), Mücher, Rüschenberg (3), Springob (5) and Teipel (2)". In 1936 there were 9 houses and 60 residents in Wamge. In 1988 the place had 144 inhabitants.

After the Biggetalsperre was built (1956–1965), many new houses were built in Wamge. The Bigge Lister hiking trail (circular hiking trail) passes south above the village.

From 1819 Wamge belonged to the Attendorn municipality in the Attendorn-Land municipality until the municipality was incorporated into the town of Attendorn in 1969.
