Biggen is a district of the town of Attendorn in the Olpe district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) and has 34 inhabitants.

Biggen is located east of the core town of Attendorn on Finnentroper Straße (L 539) and at a bend in the Bigge to the Ahauser reservoir . To the north is a former limestone quarry. The Finnentrop – Olpe railway runs south . In the local area there are the two nature reserves " Quarry Biggen " and " Auwald Biggen ".

history

Biggen was first mentioned in 1299 as " decimam in Byge ". Nobleman Johann von Bilstein enfeoffed Knight Herbord von Helden and his heirs with the tithe of Byge . On June 10, 1313, the knight Theodor von Helden was enfeoffed by Count Wilhelm von Arnsberg with the main courtyard in Bichen and the people belonging to it. In the 13th and 14th centuries, apart from the main courtyard, there were also small individual farms in Nieder- and Oberbigge. 1392 is called dat dorp to Bye , but it was at times desolate . Diederich von Schnellenberg received the fief of Count Adolf III. from the mark . In 1417 Theodor was granted permission by Helden. Jagedüwel in Arnsberg was enfeoffed by Archbishop Dietrich von Moers with the main courtyard in Bichen . Later the lease was owned by a branch of the von Elspe family , until 1620 the von Fürstenberg family bought the farm for 1300 thalers .

Politically, Biggen was formerly part of the Heggen peasantry in the Gogericht and parish of Attendorn . In the treasury register of 1536, a Reckharth zu Bychen is listed in the von Heyen bureau with a fee of 1 gold gulden . In the register of 1543 a Richart zu Bichen and in the register of 1565 a Wilhelm zu Bichen , each with 1 gold guilder . In 1674 the property of the Ewig Monastery was transferred to the von Fürstenberg family, with the renouncement of an annuity of 11 gold guilders per year from the farm in Bichen . Christoph zu Biggen was the tenant of the large farm, and his son-in-law Hermann from 1676. Every year they had to deliver a Mudde measuring oat to the church in Heggen .

In the 18th century the tenants of the estate were the Bicher family and, in 1765, Johannes Döhmer vom Dahm , against payment of 20 Reichstaler rent. In 1814 Eberhard Hellner took over the farm. The last tenant was Joseph Wrede zu Theten until the manor house burned down in 1860 and was not rebuilt. The lands were then leased elsewhere. The former Biggen farm was located on the Bigge and the old Finnentroper Landstrasse, about 500 m east of today's Biggen house in the current reservoir area of ​​the Ahaus reservoir.

In 1936 there were 5 houses in Biggen with 27 households and 120 inhabitants. The 1938 address book lists 33 people, mostly factory workers, and one restaurant. Until the middle of the 20th century there was a barrack camp on a hillside. In 1988 the place had 81 inhabitants.

From 1819 Biggen belonged in office Attendorn to the municipality Attendorn-Land , was incorporated into the city Attendorn to the community 1969th

Today there is the hotel-restaurant "Haus Biggen" in Biggen and the camping site "Hof Biggen" further towards Heggen. In the direction of the Attendorn city area, the “Biggen industrial area” with aquatherm GmbH, HMT Heldener Metalltechnik GmbH & Co.KG and Transtec Attendorn GmbH.
