geography

The street village Erlen is located southwest of the core town Attendorn between Listerscheid in the west and Petersburg in the east. The Ihne flows north of the village between the Finnentrop-Olpe railway line and the state road (L 539) .

history

Politically, Erlen formerly belonged to the Waldenburg office and in the Gogericht and parish Attendorn to the peasantry Albringhausen , which also belonged to surrounding places such as Listerscheid, Papiermühle , Weschede and others.

There were two estates in Erlen, the Vorderste Gut (Wueste Hof) and the Obere Gut (Büchten Gut), first in Merklinghausen , but later called "in den Erlen". In the appraisal register of 1543, a Johann Bucht zu Merklinghaußen with a fee of one gold guilder is named in the Ailberinghausen bureau with 26 taxpayers .

The Büchten Gut was sold in 1676 and the Wueste Hof in 1680 by the noble family von Droste zu Erwitte to the Ewig monastery . Both farms were then united by the monastery and called "Gut Erlen". From the end of the 19th century, the landowner was the farmer Josef Marcus (born 1862) from Langenohl . In the course of the 20th century the farm was given up and the property was divided.

In the 18th / 19th In the 19th century there was a hammer mill "In den Erlen" on the Ihne, operated with three fires.

The address book from 1929 lists the names "von Hagen, Hirten, Kröger (2) and Simon" in Erlen. In 1936 there were 3 houses and 11 residents in Erlen. The address book from 1956 lists the names "Braun (2), Gutzeit (2), Hüsing, Kröger (2), Lätchen, Mann and Schilli". In 1988 the place had 41 inhabitants.

From 1819 Erlen belonged to the Attendorn municipality in the Attendorn-Land municipality , until it was incorporated into the town of Attendorn in 1969.

Kröger Stahlumformung GmbH (drop forge, founded in 1884) is located in Merklinghausen in front of the town entrance to Erlen .

The wayside cross and the Hüsing house on Erlenstrasse are Attendorn architectural monuments .

Erlen belongs to the parish of St. Josef in the nearby Listerscheid. The club life takes place for both places in the club house or the shooting hall and on the soccer field on Wesetalstraße in Weschede.
