Phillip Anthony "Phil" Bardsley (born June 28, 1985 in Salford , Greater Manchester ) is a Scottish football player.

Bardsley attended Hope High School in Salford along with his future teammate, Mark Howard . He played at the Charlestown Lads Club before joining Manchester United in his youth. At that time he lived near the old Manchester United training ground, called The Cliff, where he often attended training after school. Prior to joining Sunderland AFC , he was the only active player at Manchester United to have played through all youth teams since he started there at the age of eight.

Bardsley was often loaned out while at Manchester. Stations here were Royal Antwerp , Burnley FC , Aston Villa , Sheffield United and the Glasgow Rangers .

In January 2008, Bardsley moved to Sunderland AFC .

He was eligible to play for the English, Scottish and Irish national teams. Bardsley has chosen the Scottish Association and completed his first appearance for the Scottish national team in the course of qualifying for the 2012 European Football Championship against Spain.
