Career

society

Pope, who comes from Cambridgeshire in the south-east of England, had a season ticket for Ipswich Town from the neighboring county of Suffolk as a child . About the youth of the club, Pope came to Bury Town at the age of 16 , where he was able to gain his first experience in the amateur field. Then he signed the then third division Charlton Athletic , where he made his professional debut on May 4, 2013 after a substitute.

After several loans, he was signed by the Premier League promoted FC Burnley in July 2016 for the 2016/17 season , where he signed a 3-year contract. As a replacement for the injured Tom Heaton , however, Pope did not appear in the top English league for the first time until September 10, 2017, the following season. In the further course he became a regular goalkeeper and reached the qualification for the UEFA Europa League with the team , but where they failed in the play-offs at Olympiacos .

National team

Due to his performance in the club - 39 goals conceded, the sixth best value in the league - national coach Gareth Southgate nominated him in May 2018 as the third goalkeeper for the squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia . In a previous test match against Costa Rica on June 7, 2018, Nick Pope made his debut for the national team after a substitution for Jack Butland .
