Jay Enrique Rodriguez (born July 29, 1989 in Burnley ) is an English football player of Spanish descent who moved to the English first division club Burnley FC in July 2019 .

Player career

Burnley FC (2007–2012)

Jay Rodriguez made his debut for his hometown club Burnley FC on December 29, 2007 at the age of eighteen in a 1-0 home loss to Bristol City . From January 11th to April 27th, 2008 he played on loan for the Scottish second division side Stirling Albion (11 games / 3 goals). In the Football League Championship 2008/09 , the nineteen-year-old attacker scored two goals in twenty-five league games and reached the play-offs in fifth. After a Erstrundenerfolg about Reading FC (1: 0 and 2: 0), the substitute in the 73rd minute Jay Rodriguez sat in the play-off final with 1: 0 against Sheffield United through and got into the Premier League on . Also due to an injury, he was not considered in the Premier League 2009/10 by coach Owen Coyle . From February 1 to March 1, 2010 he played on loan for the English second division club Barnsley FC and scored one goal in six league games in the 2009/10 season .

Burnley rose at the end of the season as third from bottom in the second division and missed in the Football League Championship 2010/11 as eighth table, the direct return to the Premier League. Jay Rodriguez was used in forty-two league games and was the top scorer of his team with fourteen goals. In the course of the Football League Championship 2011/12 he was able to increase this hit rate again and has so far scored fifteen league goals. In 2012 he moved to the Premier League for Southampton FC. Jay Rodriguez made his final breakthrough in the 2013/2014 season when he scored 15 goals in 33 games for the Saints . On April 5, he had to be replaced after less than 30 minutes injured in the league game against Manchester City. He suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and was out for the rest of the season as well as for the 2014 World Cup .

In early July 2017, Rodriguez left Southampton FC after five years and joined West Bromwich Albion . There he was a regular for two years, relegated to the second division with the club in his first year and moved back to the Premier League at Burnley FC in July 2019, where Rodriguez signed a two-year contract.

National team

On November 15, 2013, like his club-mate Adam Lallana at the time, he made his first international match for the senior team in the 2-0 draw at Wembley Stadium in London against Chile . He is the 1,200. England international.
