Aaron Lennon, 2011

Lennon made his Premier League debut at the age of 16 years and 129 days for Leeds United against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane , making him the youngest ever Premier League player. Good performance in the Leeds youth division - including a hat trick in the FA Youth Cup - made other clubs aware of the winger. In addition, Leeds had financial problems. In June 2005, Lennon went to Tottenham Hotspur for a £ 1 million transfer fee.

His speed made him popular with Tottenham fans. At 1.65 m, he is also one of the smallest players in the Premier League. He made his debut for Tottenham in August 2005 against Chelsea . In March 2006, he scored his first Premier League goal in a 2-0 win over Birmingham City . A few days later he extended his contract to June 2010. As an athlete, Lennon went through changeable times at the club. While he had only played irregular games under the then coach Juande Ramos , he was again a central player in the ranks of the "Spurs" after the arrival of Harry Redknapp .

On February 2, 2015, Lennon moved to Everton on loan until the end of the 2014/15 season . He came to 14 league appearances in which he scored two goals. For the 2015/16 season , Lennon initially returned to Tottenham. There he was not given a shirt number and was sent to the U21 for training. On September 1, 2015, the last day of the transfer window, Lennon returned to Everton FC. He was given a three-year contract until June 30, 2018.

National team

Lennon was first called up for England's U-21 team in October 2005. On May 8, 2006 Sven-Göran Eriksson nominated him for the English national team for the 2006 World Cup in Germany . His nomination, in place of other talent like Shaun Wright-Phillips , came as a surprise.

A good week after playing for England's B-Team on May 25, 2006 against Belarus , he made his debut as a substitute against Jamaica for the senior national team. At the World Cup itself, he came to other short appearances against Trinidad and Tobago , Ecuador and Portugal , where he had to vacate Jamie Carragher's place in the last-mentioned game shortly before the upcoming penalty shoot-out .

Even at the beginning of the qualifying phase for the Euro 2008 , Lennon remained part of the squad under Steve McClaren and on April 24, 2007 he started against Israel for the first time. After another appearance against Andorra four days later, he stayed without another senior international match for two years. He made his comeback under the new coach Fabio Capello on March 28, 2009 in a friendly against Slovakia .
