Career
societies
Philipp Bönig comes from a sports-loving family; his brother Sebastian played the first half of the 2011/2012 season for the upper division BFC Viktoria 1889 and his younger brother Vincent last played from July 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013 for WAF Brigittenau in the fourth-class Viennese city league . He himself began playing soccer at Eintracht Freising at the age of six, where he was trained by his father. In 1994 he moved to the youth department of FC Bayern Munich and moved up to the second team in 1999, for which he was in the 1998/99 season on April 24, 1999 (28th matchday), in the 0-1 defeat in the away game against SSV Reutlingen 05 , made their debut. After he had already played five league games in the following season , he was used in 29 of 34 league games in 2000/01 .
For the 2001/02 season he was obliged by the second division MSV Duisburg , for which he played 66 of 68 point games in two seasons and scored one goal in each. He made his second division debut on July 27, 2001 (1st matchday) in the 1: 4 defeat in the home game against LR Ahlen with a substitution for Ralf Keidel in the 58th minute; he scored his first of only two goals in German league football on August 10, 2001 (3rd matchday) in a 3: 3 draw at home against SSV Reutlingen 05 , with the goal to make it 2: 1 in the 58th minute.
For the 2003/04 season he was obliged by league rivals VfL Bochum , for whom he was active in both the first and second Bundesliga until the end of the 2011/12 season . With VfL Bochum in fifth place in the 2003/04 season , he qualified for the first time for the UEFA Cup competition, from which the team was eliminated in the first round after a two-way leg against Standard Liège with 1: 1 on the away goals rule .
After the club's relegation in the summer of 2005, he contributed to the direct resurgence in the 2005/06 season with 19 point games. His contract in Bochum was extended after relegation in May 2007 for three more years until the end of the 2009/10 season. When Thomas Zdebel left in January 2009, he was the longest-serving professional at VfL Bochum. Bönig occupied almost exclusively the position of the left full-back; his defensive qualities were characterized by fighting spirit and commitment. In the 2008/09 season he was occasionally used in midfield on the left flank.
From 2012 to 2015 he belonged exclusively to the squad of the second team, for which he was not used in the fourth-class Regionalliga West . After a total of twelve seasons he left the club as his contract term was not extended any further.
On November 8, 2012, Ferencvárosi TC announced the commitment of Bönig to the Hungarian record champions. He made his debut in the Nemzeti Bajnokság , the top division in Hungarian football, three days later on matchday 14, in a 2-1 win at home against Debreceni VSC . By the end of the season he played seven league games and won the Hungarian League Cup on April 24, 2013 with Ferencvárosi TC with a 5-1 win over Videoton FC . Bönig scored his first league goal on May 10, 2014 (28th matchday) in a 2-1 win at home against Diósgyőri VTK with the goal of 1-0 in the 29th minute. In 2015 he won three trophies with the team and ended his active football career at the end of the season.
National team
In the national jersey of the DFB , he only played for the 2006 team . For this he played three international matches : on September 4, 2003 in a 3-2 win against the Russian national team in Aalen , on October 21, 2003 in a 1-0 win against the Scottish national team in Aberdeen and on April 27, 2004 in the 1 : 1-draw against Russia's national team in Moscow . In all three encounters he played one half.
Coaching career
For the 2018/19 season, Bönig was the coach of the Bavarian state division club BCF Wolfratshausen , with whom he was relegated in fourth place at the end of the season.
In March 2019, the regional league team VfR Garching introduced him as the new coach for the 2019-21 season . After 17 completed games, Bönig resigned after the team had been in the relegation zone for several games.
