Pierre-Yves Fux

Pierre-Yves Fux (born July 2, 1967 in Geneva ; resident in Geneva and St. Niklaus ) is a Swiss classical philologist and diplomat .

Life

Pierre-Yves Fux studied literature ( Latin , ancient Greek , ancient Hebrew ) at the University of Geneva (1990) and history and archeology at the École pratique des hautes études at the University of Paris IV Paris-Sorbonne (1992). From 1992 to 1996 he was an assistant at the University of Geneva and studied philosophy with a focus on metaphysics (antiquity and the Middle Ages) at the University of Geneva (1994). In 1995 he was a member of the Istituto Svizzero di Roma and completed a diploma in palaeography at the Vatican School of Paleography, Diplomatics and Archival Studies (1995). He was a lecturer in Latin literature at Geneva University. 1997 he became with the work Les sept passions de prudence: (Peristephanon 2. 5. 9. 11-14) Introduction générale et commentaire. on the Christian - late antique poet Prudentius received his doctorate in literary studies from the University of Geneva .

In 1996 he joined the civil service in Switzerland and until 1997 was a candidate in the diplomatic service in the human rights policy section of the Political Directorate of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) . In 1996 he became an attaché at the Swiss Embassy in Tel Aviv . In 1998 he moved to the FDFA in Bern as a diplomatic assistant responsible for humanitarian and peace policy issues in the Middle East .

He was Counselor and Head of the Culture and Media Section in Tokyo (2002–2005), where he also taught ancient Greek at the Institut franco-japonais de Tokyo , and Counselor and 1st employee in Tehran (2005–2007). From 2007 to 2010 he was Diplomatic Adjunct and Regional Coordinator for South Asia in the Political Department Asia and Oceania of the FDFA in Bern. In 2010 he was appointed minister and worked for the Asia and Pacific departments (2010–2013), then North Africa and the Middle East (2013–2014) in the Political Directorate in the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in Bern.

In 2014 he became head of mission in Amman , Jordan (short-term deployment), and from February was the Swiss ambassador to the Holy See . In 2014 he was appointed Swiss Ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia and to the Holy See. It was based in Ljubljana . His successor for Slovenia has been Denis Knobel since July 2018. In 2017 he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Nicosia , Cyprus ; He took office on site in May 2018. On July 25, 2018, Fux was officially given the certificate of appointment by the President of the Republic of Cyprus , Nikos Anastasiadis . At the same time, he remained ambassador to the Holy See until Denis Knobel took office on December 13, 2018.

Act

Pierre-Yves Fux is considered the Middle East expert at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). Since 2002 he has been involved in Switzerland's efforts on humanitarian international law in the Middle East.

He is involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land ( Israel , Palestine ( Gaza Strip / West Bank ), Jordan ). In 2015, Pierre-Yves Fux was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick Cardinal O'Brien and on May 9, 2015 in the monastery basilica of Disentis Abbey by Bishop Pier Giacomo Grampa , Grand Prior of the Swiss Lieutenancy , invested in the Papal Lay Order.

Pierre-Yves Fux is a member of the Association Suisse pour l'étude de l'Antiquité . He speaks French, Italian, German, Swiss German and English. He reads Latin, Hebrew and ancient Greek.
