With Pilgram Reuther saddle one is natural spatial subunit (394-B) of the High Fichtelgebirge (main unit 394) in the Upper Palatinate district Tirschenreuth to smaller proportions in, the Upper Franconian district of Wunsiedel , respectively. It consists of the area of the saddle between the "actual" Fichtelgebirge with the Kosseine ( 939  m ) in the northwest and the Steinwald (up to 946  m ) in the southeast as well as the only island-like wooded western roof of the northern stone forest and Reichsforst . The railway line Nuremberg – Cheb with the largest town in the natural area, Neusorg , and the state road St 2177 with Pullenreuth run across the saddle . Larger parts of the municipality of Waldershof are also in the natural area, but not the core city.

Systematics

The main unit of natural space Hohes Fichtelgebirge (394) was identified as a sub-unit of the main unit group Thuringian-Franconian low mountain range (39) in the work on the handbook of the natural spatial structure of Germany . However, since sheets 142 Plauen (south) and 154/155 Bayreuth were never published in the refined structure 1: 200,000 , there was no refinement of this structure until the 2010s.

In the meantime, the Bavarian State Office for the Environment has broken down all natural areas in Bavaria based on the main units, which may contain a further sub-level - i.e. up to the 5th level. Since there is no further refinement, the main units are not followed by any decimal places, but the code numbers of the sub-natural areas are provided with a letter after them. In the Pilgramsreuther Saddle, the second of four sub-units, this was the letter B.

Location and limits

Unit 394-B consists of the area of the saddle between the “actual” Fichtel Mountains with the Kosseine ( 939  m ) in the north-west and the Steinwald (on the plate 946  m ) in the south-east. The actual gap between the two peaks is about 606  m above sea level. NHN and is crossed by the Nuremberg – Cheb railway a good 1 km northwest of Pilgramsreuth in the 761 m long Langentheilener tunnel ( 576.5  m ). From the plate this point can be reached practically in a pure downward motion, while various less high mountains are located in front of the Kosseine in the southeast.

Within the natural area are on the railway line and the state road St 2177 from southwest to northeast ( Kulmain -) Oberwappenöst , (Neusorg-) Wernersreuth , (Pullenreuth-) Lochau , Neusorg and Pullenreuth as well as various small hamlets in the area of the tunnel northwest of Pilgramsreuth and Rothenfurth ( both to Pullenreuth). In the southwest and in the area of the tunnel there are also many hamlets in clearings to the west of the railway line.

From the area around Pilgramsreuth, the natural area runs along the western roof of the Northern Stone Forest and the Reichsforst via ( Waldershof -) Poppenreuth to around ( Marktredwitz -) Manzenberg , where the small portion of the natural area in the Wunsiedel district is reached.

The Pilgramsreuther Sattel meets the "actual" Fichtelgebirge ( west and north ridge of the Hohe Fichtelgebirge , 394-A) to the northwest, and the Selb-Wunsiedeler plateau (395) and the Selb-Wunsiedeler Hügelland (395-A) to the north , east and south to the natural area unit 394-C Steinwald with Reichsforst and Steinwald and goes to the southwest in the Upper Palatinate hill country (070).

The boundaries to the two ridges (394-A and 394-C) follow the boundaries of dense woodland, to the southeast the Steinwitzhügel ( 664  m ) forms the border bar to the main unit 070. The northern boundary to the Selb-Wunsiedeler Hügelland runs just southeast of the Kreuzweiher Bächl , the Steinbach , the Walbenbach and finally the Kössein . From the northwest it frames the edge hills Mascher Berg ( 632  m ), Lehenbühl ( 669  m ), Fossbühl ( 664  m ) and an unnamed knoll ( 589  m ) northeast of Dörflas until it meets the A 93 . The northeast border to the Reichsforst now follows the A 93 for a short section to the southeast in the direction of Pechbrunn , but leaves the railway to the south at the Pechbrunn exit, and soon afterwards, following the tree line, swings to the west and the Roßkopf ( 725  m ) from north to south-west to circle counterclockwise by about three eighths of a turn.

Within the limits described, the Pilgramsreuther Sattel has an area of about 56.9 km².

mountains

The following independent surveys of the natural area are worth mentioning (arranged according to height above sea level, a description of the location follows after the dash):

In the shapefile of the LfU, the hamlet of Herzogöd (zu Fuchsmühl ) together with an unnamed knoll immediately west of it ( 751  m ) is included in the Pilgramsreuther Sattel. It is clearly located in the associated landscape protection area of the Steinwald Nature Park, the border of which here is close to the natural border; Harlachberg is also located in the LSG, albeit at the edge. Since the summit at Herzogöd lies particularly on the ridge line between Plößberg ( 820  m ) and Kleinem Teichelberg ( 707  m ), it can be assumed that this boundary was made by mistake.

Waters

Runs over the Pilgram Reuther saddle, in northwest-southeast direction, a section of the European main watershed , more precisely, the watershed between Eger / Elbe to the northeast and Naab / Danube in the southwest. The watershed runs from the Kosseine ( 939  m ) over the Heuberg ( 697  m ) to the area of the railway tunnel ( 606  m ) and then rises again via Harlachberg ( 686  m ) and Knock ( 845  m , Knockfelsen natural monument ) to the Platte ( 946  m ).

All the streams that arise northeast of the watershed flow over the Kössein and Röslau to the Eger. In the natural environment, this applies in particular (from east to west):

The Rohrbach leaves the natural area at about 512  m above sea level. NHN , the lowest point in the north-eastern part of the natural area.

In contrast, all streams in the southwest flow to the Naab via the Fichtelnaab , i.e. in particular (from northeast to southwest):

The Fichtelnaab leaves the natural area at around 502  m above sea level. NHN , the lowest point of the natural area at all, which is in the southeast at about 550  m above sea level. NHN , merges into the Upper Palatinate hill country.

  2. a b Within the boundaries of the LfU, the Steinwald has an area of 153.8 km² and the Pilgramsreuther Sattel an area of 61.8 km². However, according to this demarcation, the Pilgramsreuther Sattel goes as far as the main ridge of the Steinwald near Herzogöd (summit directly at the hamlet: 751 m) and even crossed the 770 m line northwest of the Plößberg. Since all other natural boundaries, even those from 394-A to 395-A north of the Schneeberg, remain below 700 m, it can only be a mistake. If you extend the border line northeast of the 725 m high mountain peak to the west of the 707 m high Kleiner Teichelberg by the 690 m height line, the stone forest area increases by about 4.9 km² and that of the Pilgramsreuther saddle decreases accordingly.

  7. In the “Protected Areas” map service of the BfN, Dörflas is still just in the Selb-Wunsiedeler Hügelland, but according to the LfU shape files, the border runs northwest of the district for a short section along the railway line to Pechbrunn, which means that Dörflas would be in the Pilgramsreuther Saddle area.
