Popkovice (German Popkowitz ) is a district of the city of Pardubice in Okres Pardubice , Czech Republic . It is located five kilometers southwest of the city center of Pardubice and belongs to the Pardubice VI district .

Popkovice is located on the Bylanka brook in the Polabská rovina ( Elbe valley ). State road I / 2 between Pardubice and Přelouč runs through the village . South of Popkovice is the Pardubice airport , east of the racecourse Pardubice and in the northeastern forest Zelenobranská dubina.

The village was first mentioned in 1440 when Bohuněk von Popkovice took part in the Czaslauer Landtag. In the second half of the 15th century the Popkovice Manor was part of the Krchleby Manor . Jan Žák von Krchleby sold his estate in 1462 to the brothers Jan and Jiří Ohništský von Ohnišťany; Jan the Younger Ohništský sold the Krchleby estate to the town of Chrudim in 1502 . In the 16th century the Popkovice Manor was separated from the Krchleby Manor. In 1544 the sons of Václav Oprašal von Zher Popkovice sold again to the town of Chrudim. In 1546 Zikmund Anděl von Ronovec acquired the Popkovice estate. In 1563 King Ferdinand I bought the estate and added it to his rule Pardubitz. His successor Maximilian II transferred the administration of the royal lordships to the court chamber . From 1580 the village, consisting of twelve properties, belonged to Rychta Rosice . In 1777 Popkovice consisted of 18 families, including three farmers, two half-farmers, seven chalupners and two cottagers. In 1799 the Nářecký rybník pond was mentioned in the village cadastre.

In 1835, the in consisted Chrudim District village located Popkowitz of 22 houses, where 160 people lived. There was a chapel of the Virgin Mary in the village. After the abolition of patrimonial Popkovice formed a municipality in the judicial district of Pardubice from 1849 . From 1868 the village belonged to the Pardubice district . In 1869 Popkovice had 187 inhabitants and consisted of 26 houses. In 1900 there were 356 people in Popkovice, in 1910 there were 561. The volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1913. On April 1, 1920, a branch of the Třebosice school was opened in the inn in the western part of the village; at the beginning of the school year 1924/25 the children attended the new school in Svítkov . The area was flooded by the Elbe flood in June 1926, the Bylanka was backed up and overflowed its banks.

Before 1930, the Východočeský aeroklub Pardubice built an airfield south of Popkovice on the Za Rybniční meadows. In 1930 the village consisted of 97 houses and had 593 inhabitants. In 1941 the regulation of the Bylanka began.

In the course of the creation of a "Groß-Pardubitz", Popkovice was incorporated into Pardubice by decision of the Interior Ministry on September 21, 1943. After the end of the Second World War, the Ministry of the Interior ordered the continuation of the "Velké Pardubice" conglomerate created during the occupation in 1946 . After the February coup of 1948, the expansion of the military airfield to the corridors of Staré Jesenčany south of the Pardubice racecourse began . In the course of the reorganization of the city of Pardubice, Popkovice belonged to the Pardubice V district from 1949 onwards. On May 17, 1954, Popkovice again became an independent municipality in the Okres Pardubice-okolí. Since 1960 Popkovice has been part of the Okres Pardubice again. On July 1, 1960, Popkovice was incorporated into Svítkov , and since July 1, 1964, the village has been part of Pardubice again. In the 2001 census, Popkovice consisted of 146 houses and 420 inhabitants. At the beginning of 2013, 432 people lived in Popkovice.
