The powiat Policki is a powiat ( German , district ') in the northwest of the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship , which is the smallest in the voivodeship in terms of area. In the north it borders on the Stettiner Haff , in the west on the German district of Vorpommern-Greifswald , in the south on the Oder in Pargowo (Pargow), in the east on the city of Stettin , the Oder in Police (Pölitz) and the Polish landscape protection park Lower Oder Valley (Park Krajobrazowy Dolina Dolnej Odry) .
The Powiat Policki is located in what is now the Polish area of historic Western Pomerania . In the parlance of the German population displaced from there after the Second World War , it is also referred to as the Stettiner Zipfel to make it clear that this small part of Western Pomerania never belonged to Western Pomerania, just because it has belonged to Poland since the war.
history
The district area in the Prussian province of Pomerania belonged to the Randow district until 1939 and, after its dissolution, to the Ueckermünde and Greifenhagen districts until 1945 . The city of Pölitz was a district of Stettin from 1939 to 1945.
The forest and water-rich landscape makes the district an important local recreation destination for the population of the city of Szczecin. The immediate vicinity of the city, especially the southern part of the district, has experienced massive suburbanization since 1990 , i.e. the construction of new single-family houses for members of the Szczecin middle class , as well as the construction of large-scale retail facilities . The close proximity to Germany and the good transport connections via the A 11 also ensure strong shopping tourism from Germany.
Communities
The powiat Policki comprises a total of four municipalities: two urban and rural communities (SL) , two rural communities (L) and, like the powiat Białogardzki, has the smallest number of municipalities of all districts in the voivodship.
