The Norwegian Sky is a cruise ship of the shipping company Norwegian Cruise Line .
history
The construction of the ship, originally planned as Costa Olympia for the Costa Crociere shipping company, began in 1996 near Bremer Vulkan . The shipping company withdrew the construction contract after the hull was completed, which contributed significantly to the sinking of the Bremer Vulkan. After the shipyard went bankrupt in 1997, the ship's hull was taken to the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven. The unfinished ship was bought by Norwegian Cruise Line and had it completed by Lloyd Weft by 1999. The Norwegian Sky was delivered on July 28, 1999 and sailed under the flag of the Bahamas with her home port in Nassau. It was named Norwegian Sky . From then on it was mainly used in Alaska.
On September 24, 1999, Norwegian Sky ran aground in the St. Lawrence River .
In June 2004, the ship went to NCL America, which was founded in 2003, a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line, which exclusively operates cruises to Hawaii. It was renamed the Pride of Aloha and sailed under the flag of the USA and is home to Honolulu .
In the summer of 2008 the ship was returned to the parent company NCL and was renamed Norwegian Sky on July 14, 2008 . Since then the ship has been sailing again under the flag of the Bahamas with home port Nassau. In June 2012, bought the shipping company , the Norwegian Sky , after a previous charter contract, for 260 million US dollars.
