The Przemsa ( Polish Przemsza ) is a left tributary of the Vistula in Poland .
course
The Przemsa arises at the Dreikaisereck in Jaworzno through the confluence of the White Przemsa ( Biała Przemsza , left) with the Black Przemsa ( Czarna Przemsza , right).
The "united" Przemsa flows south. It feeds the Dziećkowice reservoir southeast of Imielin . The town of Chełmek ( Chelmek ) is still located on the Przemsa . After about 28 km (without source rivers) the Przemsa flows into the Vistula near the village of Gorzów north of Oświęcim ( Auschwitz ) .
It represented the border between Silesia and Poland since the Middle Ages . It was the eastern border of the Duchy of Ratibor and later of the Principality of Pless , with the exception of the places Imielin , Kosztowy and Chełm Śląski west of the Przemsza, which were until after the purchase of the Krakow bishops sometimes considered as Polish exclaves in the 18th century. Since the 18th century, it separated the Prussian province of Silesia from Austrian Galicia ( Western Galicia , Republic of Krakow ). With the transition from East Upper Silesia to Poland in 1922, the Przemsa lost its function as a border river and ran exclusively on Polish territory.
White przemsa
The White Przemsa ( Biała Przemsza ) has its source near the village of Zasępiec in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship . It flows to the southwest through the cities of Wolbrom and Sławków . After 64 km it joins the Black Przemsa in Mysłowice .
After the third partition of Poland in 1795 to 1807, the White Przemsza was also the border between Prussian New Silesia and Austrian western Galicia .
Black przemsa
The Black Przemsa ( Czarna Przemsza ) is the right source river of the Przemsa. It also has a length of 64 km. Its source is in the village of Fugasówka near Zawiercie , about 2 km from the source of the Warta . It flows west through the towns of Poręba and Siewierz . In the village of Przeczyce, the Black Przemsa feeds a reservoir . The further course of the river goes south through the cities of Będzin (Bendzin) and Sosnowiec (Sosnowitz), where historically for a few kilometers the border of the Duchy of Siewierz represented, from 1443 in the possession of the Krakow bishops. The Brynica , the largest tributary, flows below the city . A few kilometers to the south, it forms the Przemsa together with the White Przemsa.
Dreikaisereck
The confluence of the Black and White Przemsa rivers has historically been referred to as the Dreikaisereck , since between 1815 and 1917 the triangle between the German Empire , the Russian Empire and Austria-Hungary was located at this point .
