The Régiment d'Agénois was established in 1692 as the first of two regiments of that name. (The second regiment d'Agénois dates from 1776 and became the 16th e régiment d'infanterie in 1791. )

Lineup and significant changes

Regimental flags

The regiment carried a white body flag and two orderly flags. There are different details for the latter. There are two pictorial representations and for the third an imprecise description from 1739 (jaunes & gris de lin façonnez dans les 4 quarrez, & croix blanches) . It was quite possible and not uncommon for the flags to be exchanged when the commanders changed.

Uniformity

Most recently, the unit wore a white skirt with red lapels and silver buttons or braids on the hat. In addition a white vest, pants and gaiters.

Mestres de camp and Colonels

Mestres de camp / Colonels / Chefs de brigade

Mestre de camp was from 1569 to 1661 and from 1730 to 1780 the denomination of rank for the regiment holder and / or for the officer in charge of the regiment.

Should the Mestre de camp / Colonel be a person of the high nobility who had no interest in leading the regiment, the command was given to the “Mestre de camp lieutenant” (or “Mestre de camp en second”) or the Leave a colonel lieutenant or colonel en second.
